Something's missing...

I've just finished decorating the hall entrance. It's quite a big space and I was struggling to know what to do with it. Now I've finished I feel like there's something out of place, it feels a bit cold, but I can't quite put my finger on it. The one thing I haven't changed is the light shade (it came with the house), but I'm not sure what would look right - shade, chandelier?

Comments (2)Oh, good grief! This has posted about 50 times! Yes, I can see that the rug is a bit off now I've looked at the pictures. It's funny how you live with stuff and don't see it. I love the shape of the chair - junk shop find - but might swap it with something else or think about re-covering. With the different woods, I agree. There are wooden floors and beams everywhere. A nice problem to have I suppose, but none of the different woods match. We moved here this year and everything we've got was bought for the last house so it's all matched to that! Comments (4)Oh another you were worried about breakfast bar behind hob. We have separate dining room so this is really for simple breakfast and lunch. My family won't eat while I am cooking as I make dinner and then ask them to come. I am just thinking that I don't have much prep space between sink and hob. 9 years agoI would definitely get a statement light fixture that give off more light. At the moment even though you have doors that let the light in it seems a bit dark I don't know if your photos were taken during the day or not. Maybe something like these.

Hi. It looks great, love the paper. I think you need you some art with some colour as the door wall particularly feels like it needs some colour to warm it up. I assume you've painted the woodwork (looks like it!) or I might have suggested the door in F&B French gray or lichen (not the grey shown!). Try angling the chair and try an existing cushion on it. I agree re the rug. Perhaps an ornament for the window sill and you could try a table lamp on the table.

- 9 years agoBeen playing around with what I've already got in the house and I'm quite pleased with results. The rug actually doesn't look so out of place now - it's not as dark as it appears in the photo - but I'm still looking at alternative rugs and light fittings. Maybe something like these? I think that and repainting the door (also having the glass replaced with clear glass shortly) might just do the trick!
