Load bearing post???

I took down a small half wall between the kitchen and livingroom. There is a group of five studs four feet from the wall glued and nailed together with steal straps at the top and bottom attatched to beams. Is this a load bearing post or a pole holding the roof down to keep it from blowing away in high winds.

A picture would be helpful. My best guess is that this is a loadbearing post. They don't use 5 studs all together if they don't need to.

I am remodeling a double wide myself, previous owner removed a kitchen island/ cabinets and now there is a swag in the ceiling/roof. So be careful! Loadbearing is questionable in all of them.

Probably front to back, looking at the pics and age of the house. has the front been modified as it looks different to the house next door, if it has then there may already be some architect drawings available to see. Easiest way to check is to lift up some carpet upstairs and see the direction the boards have been laid. the joists will be [should be] perpendicular to the board direction. But as previously stated you should engage a structural engineer for confirmation.

@Sarah L ive seen this too with the door and wondered if it was regulation, we’d love to have a more open staircase as the first floor corridor wont have a window so to enclose it and add a door would make it feel more narrow/ claustrophobic i think? This is the current enclosed staircase with it open at the bottom so a door would be worse!
