Apex window dressing - help!

Hoping someone might have a clever solution to my apex bedroom window problem! We purposely designed it to maximise the view we have and are keen to keep any blind/curtain as simple as possible. We're not keen on the usual styling option of draped curtains with tie backs and favour something that could be drawn back completely and sit either side, draping on the floor if necessary. I've bought grey linen fabric with this in mind but lost heart yesterday as it doesn't want to drape tidily. Ive just been to seek the advice of a local blind shop and felt there was no solution other than vertical blinds that could not be drawn back. I'm wondering whether there might be a more creative option involving fixed ceiling tracks and panels of fabric that could be drawn up & hooked in place somehow. Id be really grateful for any suggestions or names of companies that might help. It's a job I've been putting off but these light mornings are waking us up too early! Many thanks!

    Hi Julie,

    You're right, blinds are a challenge. But have you thought about shutters? They can be made into shapes and look stunning, really making a feature of unusual windows like yours. Here's an example:

      Thank you for the suggestions! Please keep them coming so I can research my options. Such a brilliant website! Does anyone know of any vertical options that leave the pane clear when open?? That would be the ideal option but I fear this may not be possible... should have thought it through during the design phase of the house!

      Do a search for "bottom up blinds for a gable end window". You could go for a blackout version which would roll neatly away onto the sill, giving an uninterupted view during the day. You could then look into softening the sides with some grey cotton / linen look voiles. If you want a slightly drapey look then I'm not sure that you can completely avoid tying back any curtains you use, but they they don't have to be "traditional" tie backs. I'll see if I can find a picture for you. Whilst shutters are lovely, I'm not sure that in your case, with the ceiling as it is, that you could completely fold them back off the window.

      Not sure if these photos are going to show that well. One is of a thin fabric, virtually no gather and a minimal tie back. The other shows the idea you were talking about of dropping and draping the curtain. It looks like a panel with eyelets attached onto screws (?) above the window.

      Sanderson made some great blinds for a very large apex window I had in my last house. They folded neatly away so that they were virtually invisible when closed. They were the only company I found that could cope with the angle at the top using a single blind. Expensive but never regretted!

      A shutter would look lovely. I had a shutter made for an irregular shaped window and am really pleased with it.

      Hi Julie,

      Fantastic view that you do not want to spoil.

      A shutter would look fantastic here as Hillarys have mentioned however from the angle of the roof, the shutter could not open back to let the view be maximised.

      Your only option may be a pleated blind shaped. Your local blind company should have been able to come up with something!!

      Hi! I'm embarrassed to admit I still haven't sorted this...however, this past week I have started to make the fabric panels so hopefully we should have curtains by the end of the week!! I'll let you know how I get on & whether my Ikea system has worked!

      Hi! Finally sorted & happy! I made 2 linen panel curtains with loose linings ( started with fixed linings but the panels were wavy when open). The panels are roughly the size of the window. I used a system called Integra Discreet Metal Curtain Track ( ceiling or wall fix) available through www.polesandblinds.com and bought a cording set to go with the system. it's simple but effective. I use a clear & hook to fix the drawn curtain panels in place. The added bonus is it was a very cheap product! The photos don't really do it justice!

      Hi @julieevans4, I realize this post is many years old, but we are attempting something similar, and I wondered how you attached the curtains to the gliders? Did you use curtain hooks?
