They are lovely handles Patrina. I'm having a bit of a handle issue since the holes in the pull handles on the four drawers are 83mm centre to centre and there are not many options with that sizing in brushed brass. I've found a couple of possibilities from china but with the problems there I'm not sure how long they will take to arrive.

Dear Pinklark, thank you for your advice and also for pointing me to the dark hallway articles. You are right, it is a dark hallway (it has no windows). My next post on Houzz was actually going to be about how to light this space. I am not a big fan of the existing lighting and I know it is a difficult thing to get right. I'll take some photos and see if I get great help on this too, given my experience so far, it seems like i can't lose! Ruthholstock, thank you also for your post (oval mirror - even nicer than round!) and also for trying to keep me clutter free. We are quite lucky as we also have a back entrance to the house which tends to accumulate the clutter, so I am hoping that we can keep this part of the house relatively clutter free. But let's see! Dear Mark Harrison, thank you also for taking time to post and also offer picture suggestions. I love them. However, what might not be apparent from the photo is that the drawers are original drapers drawers from c.1900 and I would hate to ruin them by painting them. I think I would prefer to swap them out for a less significant set if I went that route. But that is also an option.

Thanks lynneannie. Unfortunately there will always be additional expense whatever decision you take. We spent a good deal of time looking into peoples habits during renovation projects. As dundrum16 mentions above, the novelty of the adventure soon wears off and you find yourself ordering takeaways and eating out which for a family of 4 is more than a temporary kitchen and thats just for 1 meal a day. Equally if you ask for your builder to rig something up they will invariably charge you and its unlikely to be as well equipped as ours. Finally there is no doubt that hiring a temporary kitchen is a great saving for a family who decides they can now stay in their home rather than go to the disruption and expense of finding a short term rental.

How lovely to have a kitchen with the space for such a wonderful bank! Putting my practical hat on - your first consideration should be ensuring that all doors on the pantreis and fridge freezer can open to the maximum possible extension so as to access all contents, remove chiller trays or drawers etc for cleaning. This might limit your options, but if this isn't a constraint, I would certainly consider some units sitting a little proud. If you do bring them to sit proud, I would certainly suggest they have a minimum of about 36mm of "framing" to accentuate the feature. And, personally, I would prefer the aesthetic of 4 central units sitting proud of a single unit either end - doable if the fridge and freezer are each separate. I don't quite know why, but I just think these proportions work a little better. Would love to see pics when this one is finished!!
