Kitchen Tile Layout
We Selected This Tile for our kitchen and it comes in a 16x16 or 12x24. I personally am leaning towards the 12x24 staggered layout. Thoughts? Thanks

Comments (0)Hi all Moved on to thinking about kitchen replacement. Not a fan of the subway tiles and the cabinets need replacing. I was thinking of adding a breafast bar between the double doors and tbe window would this crowd the space especially as I want to also have a dining table in the space next to the kitchen? Also any suggestions for high quality but not too expensive cabinet sources etc. what would you do withthe dpace. Definitley needs more lighting as well. It's a small 2 bedroom "house", approx 700sqft. -Fridge: yes this is one of my concerns too, just unsure how to fit in a full size. -Microwave: I never knew there were corner versions! That could change things! -Glazed doors: very good point, I had thought it might make the kitchen feel bigger and less claustrophic, but actually as you say, could look dated and less tidy. And agreed, sounds good going for one clean style of cupboard doors styles. -Angled cupboard: was thinking of making the most of the storage, but actually gives very little extra, and as you say will look dated, so good point! -Free standing counter: I think that would be a push, but it's food for thought, and potentially a small mobile butchers block might fit.. my main concern is that the front door is right there, so would be a bit hectic/cramped with people coming in and out if there was something in the middle. @Jonathan I think it probably would fit, and I like the idea, but we'd lose the dishwasher, I definitely have a think about rejigging the layout a bit, thanks....See MoreKitchen extension with whole new kitchen - advice on layout?!
Comments (7)@kazzh Adding a wall as suggested by HU won't allow for the intention of an open plan with the living room as and adding a wall by the current opening will remove a lot of afternoon light from the living room. Adding the laundry to the pantry is certainly possible, it's an idea that has been considered, but we didn't know a) how possible it was to create a new waste pipe and where to run to, possibly the bathroom next door. b) how to position the pantry area to consider a reduced length of waste pipe to avoid a mass of disruption of other units ie cutting holes in them. Moving the patio door isn't impossible, as we can just brick up the current and add a window, then add a patio door to the extension. Thank you so much so far!...See MoreGalley kitchen layout
Comments (4)It looks lovely but a bit confused where the FF is? What are the appliances on the sink run in order? A herringbone floor can make a room feel wider and wood would add warmth. Perhaps you could consider a pedastel table so you could push it against the bench when not in use? Perhaps a couple of shelves in the unit colour to the right of the sink for cups/glasses etc to free up a little cupboard space? A mirror at the dining end where the art is should make the space feel wider and reflect the garden Personally not a fan of draining grooves as they collect crumbs and the water sits. I might personally go for less contrast on the walls with the unit colour to make it feel wider, you could always use a darker tone on the bench on that short wall...See More

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agogracie,,larger format tiles have a tendency to bow or cup in the middle. this is from the firing phase with ceramic and porcelain. this is what you don't want
laying them in the other pattern minimizes the effect. some tiles are more bowed than others. usually the tile manufacturer will list the layout requirement for their tiles. look on the specifications for the tile you ordered. what do they recommend? sometimes they recommend 25% offset,,,,and you will have to go w/a larger grout line in some instances.
33% Offset Pattern
Note that the offset specified in the ANSI standard is not a 50% offset. The reason is that this pattern amplifies actual tile warpage and likely results in unacceptable lippage in the finished installation.
In other words, the tile should be set in a 33% offset pattern unless the manufacturer specifies an even smaller offset (e.g., 25% offset).
In addition, the grout joint size should be widened to help lessen the effects of lippage caused by actual warpage in the installation. ANSI A108.02 4.3.7 discusses criteria for lippage which includes allowances for workmanship.
Check the tile carton; if it isn't stamped with information indicating that it meets A137.1, contact the manufacturer or distributor. They will be able to tell you whether the tile meets ANSI A137.1.
