Bedroom redesign
Looking for some advice on a bedroom redesign for a north facing room. Wall colour will need to be fairly neutral but I'm also stuck on lighting, bedding and curtains. We're quite conservative so nothing too wacky but a splash of colour on the bedding and accessories would be great. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you in advance. Rosalind

4 years agoI really like the Oak drawers and Wardrobe, but I feel the bed is overpowering the room with wood.
I'd go for an upholstered look bed to break it up and soften it down a little.Add maybe some pale feather wallpaper, peacocks maybe? Something soft and neutral behind the bed.
Ramp up the bedding department and add in some textures.

Comments (12)Hi Valerie, this is a rough sketch about my idea. In the existing house there is an open porch, the porch and then a big hall. I think that you don't need all this space just for the entrance. I created just an open porch and then the hall with a cupboard (for coats and shoes) in front of the main door. -Bedroom 1: master bedroom; en-suite with a new window at side; dressing room using part of the existing porch. -Bedroom 2: new wall between bedroom 2 and 3 to create cupboard for both room. -Bedroom 3: reduced the size of the room to realize an en-suite using the existing wc. -Family bathroom: same size; demolition of existing storage to put a bath. -Kitchen/dining: demolish wall between kitchen and living room; kitchen units with island; new big window; bi-fold doors at rear. -Utility room: same position as existing; pocket door. If you need more space, we can reduce the garage. -Living room: as requested is a small area, but connected to the kitchen/dining with double pocket door. In this way you can have a huge open space. I think that you don't need the french doors at front, but just a big window. -Study: new small study created, reducing the existing porch. I'm wondering if you need 2 garages, or maybe one of them can be converted and added to the house. Comments (4)You could make a model of your room with cardboard try and do it to scale then move the items around until your happy with it. There some free online programs that can do this as well if you are good with a computer 'sketchup'' is one you could try. Certainly cheaper if you want to see the costs down....See More

4 years agoWhat decor style do you like - country, contemporary, mid century?
I decided to get white furniture when I decorated my bedroom. I find lots of wood overpowering, not saying I dislike it, just don’t want lots of it in a room. Would you be up for painting the bed frame? A nice off white would be a good start. Before choosing the wall paint I wonder if getting some bedding you like would be good, then pic a colour from it for the walls. Just an idea. You say you want a neutral but there are so many from off white to dark beige or grey.
I’ve got Egyptian Cotton (Dulux) in my north east facing bedroom which I really like. I’m about to paint the wall behind the bed in a very soft plum (Laura Ashley Pale Iris) which will tie in with my LA curtains.
I just needed more colour! Bedding is white. By the way I love Mrs Maths suggestion, very glam!Here’s some inspiration:

i don't know what you think of the oak Amelia bed from Time4sleep? It's a really good price and gets great reviews. I would go for a flush chandelier, this one is from BHS. Personally I'd go for Roman blinds, they won't visually fill the room and will let more light in. I've just added a Laura Ashley wallpaper and striped blinds but if you're up for wallpaper maybe choose one and then people can help further? I'd just opt for white bedding and add colour with cushions and a throw. I think an oval mirror hung landscape behind the flowers on the chest would work well too.

4 years agoThe bed with the spindles is a bit overwhelming. So I'm with the above, be it a more elegant oak frame or an upholstered bed.
Here some looks I personally think would really look lovely. A bit cooler/neutral wall color, very pale. No too much bling. Add new bedlamps (be it standing or wallmount, something pretty) and a very simple flush mount ceiling light (something functional). Natural (unbleached) cotton drapes (but you could probably keep the existent ones). Perhaps a mirror or a large framed wallpaper panel above the bed.
