Wardrobe advice for loft space

Hi all

I would really appreciate advice on fitted wardrobes and access to storage to the area under the eaves.

The first photo is where I will be putting in a full length wardrobe which will run across the sloping ceiling towards the left (second photo).
However, there is an area under the eaves, beyond the partition section which I want to make use of for storage. It’s not a large area and may be difficult to access but I would still want to make some use of it.

Any ideas how I would access it and how it will be incorporated within the wardrobe space?

I will be also placing drawers or some sort of units under the windows also so that section maybe close off.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Your photographs also show a major pet hate of mine and time and again I wonder when residential builders are going to enter into the modern world!

The pet hate is the use of wood for plasterboard wall structures instead of metal top and bottom track, metal studs and metal noggins.

The use of metal stud partitioning has been an industry standard in the commercial, hospitality, industrial and retail sectors for over 35 years. It is faster to install, cheaper and far more accurate than the use of wood and you do not need to be a rocket scientist to erect it!

It is about time that British builders started to learn the lessons from their commercial counterparts!

I think that some form of pullout is your best option in there, you might be able to get a section of full hanging or a set of double hanging space, then you could have some cubby holes built for shoes etc in the tight corner. Im not sure if there is enough space, but another idea might be to make it into a really cosy bench seat with a custom cushion on top, this way you could have storage underneath and then a nice place to sit and read- but it might just be a little too tight for this.

When designing loft rooms it’s useful to have an elevation to see heights involved too - yes there seems a lot of wasted space here ! But it may be that those areas are below 2m - but that could still be used for sofa /soft seating area. We often have situations where we can pull the bed forward from a rear wall to create a walk in dressing room behind the bed area - either a shared one - or split for each person, accessed from their side of the bed. I would take down the wall between the bathroom and bedroom, make the bathroom smaller and have a wall of wardrobes with a secret entrance to the bathroom. We have just done this to two of our en-suites, one using ikea kitchen metod plain cupboards, and the other with a sliding door wardrobe. Both look fabulous. It squares up the room, allowing an huge amount of storage that we wouldn’t have got with a door to the side. It also feels quite magical have a secret entrance to the bathroom.

Thanks Katie, this looks great! The view is lovely I can definately see why you have done it this way. I love the window too. Do you mind If I ask what the dimensions of the room are for reference? My only concern would be if we could get enough full height storage on the eaves wall behind the bed, I don't think our room will be as big as this. The reason we planning to go for lots of tall storage is so that we can store away all our clothes and any other bits away as we don't have much storage throughout the rest of the house. So storage is a big thing on this build. But orientating the bed in that way make loads of sense. Ideally I would be able to just let them build the main shell and then get up there and position a bed in various places. But I guess so much has to be determined before that stage so the wall lights, plug points etc... are all in the correct place. I think I might draw some options up in CAD and then start a new thread and see which people prefer and what they would do themselves. Thanks for your comments and pictures :)
