Of course they block light and view . Do you need to keep them for protection then it is a no brainer if you do not have hurricanes I would not choose them. I would use solar shades to keep the view and provide daytime privacy and add drapes for night time.. You then get the heat and sun blocked .

My question was do they block too much of your view. Obviously they block something. However, I’ve seen a lot of homes along the coast who have them with great views and was wondering from a homeowners perspective how they felt about whether/how much view it blocked.
As for no brainer. There are other options for protection.
Any home owners who have them?
Recommend or not?
Anybody with a raised home?

@robinc7 Friends have them and you can see out, we live on the water and i am using full bahama shutters on the front of the house that is street view, in the back i am doing half shutters so we can keep the view but still get help from sun. We live in Fl. Bahama shutters can show more view..i would contact a Bahama shutter company.
