Ideas for Replacing Windows - Any Recommendations?
Comments (12)We agree with Synseal- £25k is a lot for bifold doors. You would need an RSJ which would cost you around £2k but we're not sure where the rest of the money is being spent. Might be worth asking for a price breakdown? Our bifold doors start at £3k for a three leaf (a rough guide for bi-fold doors is £1k per leaf +installation) and they are custom made from timber, you definitely need to shop around. Have you considered lift & slide doors? the new style doors could be a happy medium between your bifold doors & french doors. Coastal Group have a project on their page showing how lift & slide doors work. Comments (10)Thank you for the recommendation AMB! We would definitely recommend sticking with wood. As AMB mentioned, timber windows can often be repaired without requiring full replacement. For example, you may only need to replace the moving parts of the window if the frame is in a good condition. A good window company should be able to advise you what is required and you may find our document linked below helpful. Windows and Doors: Assessing Your Needs Unfortunately Staffordshire is too far North for our installation and repair services, as we only offer these across Southern England. We do, however, provide a supply only service nationwide, so if you are interested in this please contact us and we will be happy to help. Comments (10)I love that idea. The original windows are much bigger and more intricate. I would contact an architect in the first instance. You could also see if there is a heritage window company in or close to your area and see if they could send a surveyor to have a look. I would speak to a few builders too as you will definitely need one to replace the window. He will need to reinstate the tiled roof above. This is going to be costly, no question about it. Be prepared for a lot of disruption if you decide to go ahead....See More- 6 years ago
