Your missing the total thickness TOGETHER with the width and grade. Mercier offers 1/2" and 3/4" thickness. Preverco makes 5/8" (snick more than 1/2") and 3/4".

The colour and width are different between the two companies. Mercier offers 5" and 6.5". Preverco offers 5 1/8" or 7". They offer with or without knots. And they offer a 'good' plank structure versus a 'better' plank structure.

All of these 'slight' variations will make a difference on the FINAL cost.

Please post a link/name to the ONE item you are looking at in EACH collection and we will investigate the differences that are inherent in the price.

Frankly I thought the Preverco would cost more. From what I have seen there's not much difference.

@SJ, thank you so much for helping me out. Here are the specs for both floors.

Both 3/4” with 4mm wear layer, approx 5” wide, satin natural finish.

They both offer 3/4” 4mm

Preverco is 7.75 sq ft for 5” width, 8.75 for 7” width. There was no price difference between flex and flex 19.

Mercier is over 9.50 for 5” and over 10.00 sq ft for their 6” .

They are both very similar, yet there is well over $2-3 sq ft price difference. So any insight that you can offer is appreciated.

I have samples From both companies, in Satin. Preverco’s satin does Not feel as smooth as Mercier’s. Satin. It almost feels flat, Preverco states their sheen level is 20. Cant find Mercier’s sheen levels.

Compare the Mercier to the Preverco SolidGenius price. The two products are MUCH closer in specs than the Mercier to the Preverco Flex.

The number of PLYWOOD layers bumps the price up. That means the Preverco Flex has 3 layers (top layer + soft wood middle layer + bottom layer). The Mercier has 12 layers (top layer + 11 layer plyied wood). The ONLY Preverco product that has IDENTICAL layers = SolidGenius.

Now you are comparing 12 layers to 12 layers. That's your price difference.

Thank you again SJ. I believe the quote was for Max 19 and flex, will get quote for the genius. The flex, was indeed, flexible. Hard to believe the way the sample seemed to bend or fold, I was assured it is an awesome floor as it is easier to istall and conforms easily to subfloors.

preverco also states their satin as being 20% gloss, whereas Mercier’ s satin is 40% gloss. I prefer the later. More to come...

Which floors did you end up going with? Any feedback is appreciated.

@Anul, we chose Lauzon flooring. A canadian manufacturer, love our floors. Floors are hickory.

@ Anul, What type of floor are you looking for? Mirage, Mercier and Lauzon are all really good manufacturers in Canada.

Looking for a 5 inch plan in muted colors. Don't want too much red or yellow undertones. I have looked at Mirage and Mercier. Not seen Lauzon anywhere

I see. Also tell us a little more about thickness, wood species, finish sheen, etc. What you like and don't like about below 5" White Oak.
