The jellyfish are mushrooms :)) My hubby and his brother love Susan Derges' photography (me too now!) - the mushrooms were bought at an auction. If you look again at the pics of our hallway, the blue print there is one of her camera-less photos; also the girl with the drops of water that's in front of the plant in the living room; as I said, we are all big fans of her work here :)) My brother-in-law spends most of his days on auction houses websites or browsing exhibitions... usually artnet is a good place to enquire about her photos http://www.artnet.com/artists/susan-derges/2 To be honest, until I met my guy and got sucked into 'the world of originals' (ha!) No! Don’t use pink stuff paste or a magic eraser! Pink stuff spray is fine but not the paste. We have spare doors at work and have done tests on them. You should not use a product that is harsh such as paste because in time it will take the surface of the door off. If however your doors are so bad that they are ready for replacing you have nothing to loose. I’m now monitoring the removal of marks with baby wipes. For some strange reason they seem to shift a multitude of sins.

Hi Beckie, I'm impressed how much you've done already! For painting there's a few ways to go. Everyone has difference tastes so go with your gut feeling - there's no right or wrong answer. A single colour throughout will always look cohesive and elegant. Especially if you can maintain some symmetry with furniture/print/lighting placement. Painting just the chimney breast can also look good. Personally I think it's worth going several shades darker though, this adds drama and looks like an intentional statement. Just a shade darker and it often comes across as being a little timid. The third option and one I rather like is keeping the chimney breast the same colour as the rest of the room but painting the alcoves either side in a darker shade - this plays on the human tendency to equate darker as further away/lighter as closer to - so it creates the feeling of more depth. Finally had you decided whether to stick to a black stove or go for a pale one? Black against a dark grey for example is likely to feel a bit lost when you've got a mirror/art etc up elsewhere when really you want it to be the stand out feature. Just something to consider. I've post some examples of the different scenarios which will hopefully help you decide!

Would the Welsh dresser fit in the recess under the stairs, far enough back to not block that window and borrowing the glass section to reflect light? There appears to be more space on that side of the fire - the newly painted dining table could be be positioned to that side of the fireplace. You could then place the couch (OK, I'm an Aussie and we tend to have couches over sofa's!) closer to the fire for a warm reading area and getting benefit of the window and connect with the fireplace Aqua colouring...The free standing chair could be either nearer the window on that side or in the opposite corner near the radiator. Thereby leaving the radiator free, and I assume able to be more effective? Moving furniture around sometimes helps - I do roll my eyes when hubby suggests repositioning furniture to get things right but it usually gets us thinking about how we use spaces!
