KronoSwiss Laminate?

Is anyone familiar with KronoSwiss laminate flooring? Specifically the Grand Selection Origin 14mm collection.

    I LIKE this website: it offers SWISS and German (ha...no they are NOT the same thing!) and English...etc.


    As for the Grand Selection Origin = stunning! They are THICK (14mm...doesn't get much better than that!). They are LONG (79" = 5ft) and they are WIDE (9.5" wide)! These are SERIOUS floors! The Aquastop with the 5G (Valinge system = best of the best...top of the top...nothing better on the PLANET for a click system...and it's EXPENSIVE!).


    You get the 'synchronized' pattern+texture = super expensive to produce with laminate. The antiscratch is worth it's weight in gold.


    Now for the 'hype'. The Swiss do NOT say ANYTHING that isn't true. I'm not kidding. They are PERFECTIONISTS (they snub 'German' technology...it isn't good enough for them! whaaaat???).


    The LAWS in Europe are VERY different from N. America. In Europe (especially in Switzerland) you CANNOT make a claim that is not ALREADY PROVEN. Sounds logical...but it is the other way around in N. America. You can make the claim all you want...you don't have to prove it until you are TOLD to prove it (usually by a judge). See the difference.


    If the Swiss say it is 'water resistant up to 24 hours' then it is water resistant upto 25 - 30 hours most of the time...but not always...so they backed off and said '24 hours'....just to be SURE.


    If the Swiss sell it in Switzerland, they have to achieve the HIGHEST testing requirements on Earth (Swiss don't mess around...they just don't want the legal headaches...the Swiss are legal sticklers for 'real' data).


    I would not hesitate to use these floors. If you have the budget to use these floors then GO FOR IT! They are HARD to find...they are expensive and they are worth every penny.


    Just make sure the installers make you pay for proper subfloor preparation. There is nothing worse than a magnificent floor being ruined by someone going 'cheap' on the subfloor prep.

    Yes subfloor prep! Sadly we have found particle board under the carpet. The cost to have the particle board removed and have 1/2” plywood installed is more than the cost of the 900 sqft of flooring, it’s underlayment and trim pieces. With that said any suggestions on what we should ensure that subfloor prep includes?

    Wait.... Plywood + install is worth more than your purchase of Swiss laminate? How much are you paying for the laminate? Adding in the 5% waste? How much are you paying for the HIGH END laminate????


    Plywood 1/2" should be $ 1.25 - $1.75/sf. Cost of demo + install of plywood (labour) should be $2-$3/sf. That's a total of $4.50/sf. How can high end laminate + underlay + trim cost LESS than that?


    945sf x $4.50 = $4,252.50 for plywood and Labour for prep....? Is that correct?

    You're saying you are paying LESS than $4.50/sf for Swiss laminate?? Underlay is $0.50-$0.75/sf. The trim is often $1/linear foot. That means you laminate is less than $4/sf.


    Check to see what your quotes include.

    We're looking at Oak Lion in the Kronoswiss Grand Collection, but it's hard to find pics of actual installs for sure.
