What colour bookcase?

So I have this bookcase but it doesn’t go with anything in the room and it is too dark so I’m replacing it with a kallax bookcase. However my desk is white, my bed and bedside table are both oak coloured and my wardrobe is a beautiful cherry colour.
Considering I don’t want it to look like a furniture set but I still want it to look well thought out. Thank in advance.

Wood colours at the moment. Also, the walls are white.

Can’t you paint it to match the walls or a different colour if you want it to stand out?

For me the trick is defiantly positioning lay some down and stand some up, add some personal decorative pieces to break up the books Play with height and groupings of things maybe put something tall with 2 smaller things add some pictures or even those little boards with sayings on. Mostly though I think it's important too add some beautiful things that mean something to you and incorporate them with your books.

lots of people have had a good input on colour schemes - colour is a very personal choice .... whether you go for classic rich colour or something more neutral with longevity ... The one thing I would really consider doing is to remove the shelves from either side of the fireplace or at least make them shallower in depth and definitely go for a statement wallpaper or contrasting colour on the fireplace wall. this would make a real feature in the room and less oppressive, opening it up - the existing shelving as practical as it may be really dominates. I appreciate it is probably more of a case of practicality. Also depends on what your office is trying to do for you .... do you need a showcase office to impress visitors, are you there all office hours, ..... colour can create an ambience a mood, relaxing you or giving you a headache ..... ! Most interior designers refer to a certain colour range on the market (F&B) all their colours are quite relaxing even thought they me be deep colours check them out and use them as a starting point - you can always adjust the colour slightly by getting one mixed specially if they are not quite what you want. Oh and on the point of atmosphere - think I would be inclined to add neutral wood to warm up the room ... the floor looks good for sanding down. Good Luck and please post the results.

What a gorgeous room! Cromarty is so lovely- in my last house I was planning to use it, but here it’s just a touch too green for me, sadly. I envy you your lovely picture rail; mine has been developed out but at least they left the Edwardian coving! For the bookcases I love both Minnie’s suggestions above. The plaster is soft and playful and evokes rose gold. The pigeon is so effortlessly sophisticated and would really showcase books, treasures etc.

I too would find a different bookcase. In fact find a decent joiner and have one made. We had ours built out of mdf and then added trims because we don't have cornicing. It cost me £160 in mdf and £185 for the joiners labour for a day. I then spray painted it white... You can literally have it as you want it and if you're after glass doors, any decent joiner could add them into the design.

I had various woods in my sitting room including two old large pine bookcases. I painted them off white Little Greene Slaked Lime. They look so much better now. How about painting the one you have either in white or a shade to fit in with your bedding, curtains and flooring? This is a section of one of my very tall bookcases!

Wood veneer can be painted the same way as solid wood, i.e. fill, sand, clean, primer, top coat.

Anything can be painted but just make sure you have the right primer.

I used zinsser BIN Shellac to prime OAK coloired Ikea Book cases then painted then the colour I wanted

I’ve looked into it and it’s actually nearly the same price to buy a kallax unit from IKEA as to paint it but thank you for all the great suggestions!
