It's a lovely light room but certainly a tricky one to furnish given the configuration of door with windows. Lesley345 is right that the easiest way to deal with it would be to consider it as a room of two halves to either side of the door. Then you can give each end a function so potentially the area to the left of the door where the TV is now could be a seating area and could take a corner sofa, while the opposite end could be more about watching the TV in the alcove and have a couple of comfortable chairs which could be easily adjusted in a situation where the TV was off and you had a larger group of friends/family around. you would then want to tie it all together by using a large rug to visually bring it all together. You could also look at having a projector rather than a TV and using the large white wall at one end to project onto. If watching TV isn't actually that important to you then you could create a seating area centrally to the room with the windows as the focal point and statement storage units/art work/piano at the ends of the room. It's not necessary to have furniture backed up against the walls and placing items centrally instead could help free up the way you consider the space. The key thing to do is to consider the activities that you want to do in the room most of the time and then decide on the furniture you need to support those activities, particularly considering ways to make things flexible and possibly multifunctional. In terms of colour I would keep it light and go for a modern cottage look. Yellow based whites would work. Using F&B colours try Wimborne white, new white, white tie etc. Or you could try something with a bit more colour like dimity, or mizzle or borrowed light. I would go for a traditional style sofa, have a look at sofa.com, and go for either a pale duck egg or an off white and combine with cushions in different pastels. Flooring either a light to mid oak floor if you want wood (or a white distressed could look good) or if you're going for carpet try a pale biscuit sisal or herringbone. I must admit I am struggling at the moment trying to find a more traditonal sofa that isn't too deep! It may have to be a 3 seater with an occasional chair if you like that layout and sofa style!

Seeing the room from this angle, I wonder if there is any way to position the TV close to the fireplace, so that the sofa could go where the TV is now? That way, you get to enjoy the cosiness of the fire while you watch TV. Would the TV fit between the fire and window, or could it go above the fire? I would build some bookshelves against the wall in the alcove, and replace the small sofa with a couple of chairs- although it's a lovely sofa, so maybe you could use it in another room. Add a reading lamp and small coffee table to the alcove and you create a comfy space to curl up in - the low ceiling actually works to your advantage there. I would definitely inject some more colour - start with one thing you love, be it a cushion, painting or vase, and build a colour scheme from there. Shop around for interesting accessories to create an individual look.

Hi! The width of the house is 3.9m so quite narrow and at the back if the house will be kitchen/diner with basement. We don't have a front garden really as it's a townhouse that sits on the pavement! So reinstalling the hallway would be beneficial. But I am thinking that the wall could be partial glass......Your opinion would be so welcome! Thank you
