Hi Em B, this is a gorgeous shade and can look great year-round! We used Farrow and Ball's Red Earth shade in this design which we think could work really well for you:

We find that rust-coloured walls can dominate a space if not balanced properly. Consider using neutral tones for cabinets, countertops, and flooring. Whites, creams, and light woods work beautifully with rust, giving a soft contrast that allows the walls to stand out without overpowering the room. You can also add elements of black or dark grey to add a modern edge and a sophisticated feel.

Also, we recommend accessorising using metallic finishes like copper, brass, and gold to add a touch of luxury, complementing the rust walls beautifully. Or for a more grounded and rustic approach, incorporate natural materials such as wood, stone, and clay. These elements can help tie the kitchen together, creating a cohesive and inviting space. Plants can also add a fresh and vibrant touch, contrasting nicely!

I don't think your shade of rust is that different to your inspo pics. The one thing that stands out to me is your white skirting board. You may want to consider painting it the same colour as the wall. You could try hanging items on it to see if that changes the colour slightly.

Thank you @mybespokeroom, I don’t seem to be able to comment underneath or response. That’s really helpful advice, I had considered Red Earth but thought it might be too light/peachy. The examples on the F & B website look very different in changing light. Our unit cupboards are dark charcoal and our island is light bronze green. Lighting is wood and brass. Hi Em B, based on your image and the images you've used as reference, the biggest thing that stands out is the lack of fluidity from top to bottom. Before painting the whole room again, pehaps try paint the skirting board the same colour as the room and then add in some neutral, earthy decor to get the feel you are looking for, get rid of the black stool etc. If after that it doesn't work, maybe you need to opt for a different shade.

Hi, I wouldn't touch the white skirting board anywhere else. I was only suggesting painting the skirting board the same colour as the wall where you have painted it the rust colour.

Thanks Black and Milk. The still is just there in the shot to show context- we have black stools and black accents. I completely agree about the white skirting board ( and architrave, it’s jarring. Just didn’t know how it would look next to the white skirting board of the adjacent wall. I am now convinced that the whole wall needs to be one colour, whatever colour that is . Thanks for your input
