We were taking cues from french country style for the colours and feel of this house. Soft provincial blues with washed reds, and grey or worn wood tones. I love the big new mantelpiece we fitted, and the new french doors with the mullioned windows, keeping it classic but with a fresh twist by painting the woodwork blue. Photographer: Nick George

Magri Williams designed and led the project for this rear extension, loft conversion and house refurbishment in London. The clients wanted a calm home and refuge from busy London life. Roslyn Road was transformed most notably on the ground floor; connecting all the spaces, and adopting a restrained material palette of London stock-style brick, ash-white concrete, light clay walls and birch plywood. The Victorian house is made from London stock brick and this is the starting point in response to the extension. The new proposed brick is carefully chosen to echo the existing, but noticeably different in colour and arrangement to enable its reading as a new element.

Siamo nel centro di Andora. L'appartamento è al primo piano di un palazzo storico e affaccia su una strada pedonale. Lo spazio è stato pensato per apparire il più luminoso e spazioso possibile. La tinta Ral9010 alle pareti rende rischiara e scalda l'atmosfera dell'ambiente insieme al pavimento il rovere sbiancato. Gli arredi di colore neutro sono pochi ma essenziali della zona living. Il caminetto a biogas si integra perfettamente col gioco di mensole che costituisce il mobile TV e libreria. Le pareti libere sono impreziosite da stampe fotografiche di Henri Cartier-Bresson.

The main design focus for the entertainment areas of the house was to create a calm yet inviting atmosphere. Making use of items the client already had and giving them a makeover, adding lighting and window treatments that were sympathetic to the area. The client had a lot of art work which they bought with them, we chose to have a more neutral colour palette in order for the accessories to stand out and make a statement.
