Build in a media unit. Installing a long, low storage cabinet along the wall of a living room can be an efficient use of space. Here, the top of the cabinet is used as a place for the TV, while the control boxes and cables are hidden inside. There is plenty of additional storage in the cabinet as well, which gives the room a clean, uncluttered look. When needed for gatherings, the TV can be moved aside and cushions brought out for additional seating.
Exploit the area under the stairs. Spaces beneath staircases are great opportunities for good storage, but so often they become cluttered and impossible to organize. Rather than having a door into one big area, forming a series of cabinets and drawers accessed from the side, as shown here, can transform the effectiveness of the space and create the visual clarity of a well-organized home.
