Again, a juxtaposition of shapes - round against the very linear.
We are fans of the birds, and Chris feeds them madly. We usually have 5-6 feeders, 3-4 bird baths, and spend a lot of effort battling the squirrels.... Hah! I don't like this fence at all, but like the natural state of the bird bath/water feature.
The juxtaposition of the square and round shapes is cool here - and the Japanese river rock....!!!!
Again, those larger, rectangular stepping stones set in smaller stone. Strikes me as a more modern aesthetic, with those simple, clean lines and repetition.....
I think this is a cool idea of how we might use the slope to make the firepit work.... And maybe hide some septic equipment, too?
I do really like the simplicity and clean lines of the large rectangular stones. I also like the repetitive, pattern-like feel of their use in the garden.
This is similar to the edging you were proposing, is it not?
I like the notion of a wooden pad on top of stone. I do worry about wood getting slick when wet, though. We have a recycled bamboo, plastic (CaliBamboo) product on our porches that I really like, and those boards have two sides - a ridged side and a smooth side.
The angle of the steel is lovely, isn't it? Also love the unexpected placement of the grasses in the stone.
Love the "caps" on the gabions, and the fire pit is really nice, too!

I really like the underplanting of the ornamental grasses here. Such nice textures, and the bark of the (paperbark maples?) is lovely, too!
These actually put decking on top to turn the gabions into seating....

This is lovely. (I had a huge weeping Japanese maple at my last house, and we have a large, moving garden sculpture that we hope to include. I'll send a photo one like it......

We'll be looking down into the fire pit area, as does this setting. I don't think I'd want to create a solid backdrop, as this one does, but I do like having a color pop....

I think this bed is really unusual in that it uses such varied stone, and the plantings are much more "tucked in."
