Reply to: We have 4 stools without backs that slide under our breakfast room bar. Adjacent to that is a table with 6 chairs in the kitchen eating area. We never eat a meal at the bar, preferring to look across the table at each other. However, the bar stools are handy for when we want to hang out and watch the cook (my DH), and for when we have people over...they always end up in the kitchen at the stools! Go backless!

Reply to: luckybooky, yes quartz counters will chip if your backed stools twist into them . My neighbors showed me the the damage that had been done to theirs. so when I put in my quartz counters I just bought swivel backless stools

Reply to: I like that they match - it is pleasing to the eye because it gives continuity to a small space. Bar stools can overwhelm this small area if the backs are very high - to me it is temporary seating, not one for lounging.

Reply to: I prefer no backs or short backs that will slide under counter and out of the way. We frequently turn the island into a buffet for large gatherings and the stools do not get in the way.
