Reply to: I want to clarify some of the materials frequently used for cabinets and trim. Most factory painted cabinets, even high end ones, are MDF or a combination of MDF and wood. Your husband does not need to worry about good wood being painted:) Sometimes, factory painted cabinets are all wood, usually maple because it paints very well, but sometime alder or other woods - never oak because of the texture of the grain. Wood moves with changes in temperature and humidity, which happens seasonally in most places. This movement often cracks the paint at the joints and this movement shows more on painted than on stained cabinets. MDF is more stable to temperature and paints well which is why it is used for painted cabinets and most new painted trim work, though pine is also a good paint grade wood for trim. You can have the blue island with the white cabinets and wood trim. White, wood and blue work well together.

Reply to: I love your floor and your cabinets are very pretty as is. Lighten up everything else. Get the dark stuff down from the cabinet tops. Add more lighting and replace the pendants. Get brighter and cooler bulbs. Do you have undercabinet lighting? You should. Do cream countertops. I even like the range hood with the curlicue. The kitchen you have right now is way better than the very generic pinterest hobby lobby fake floor looking inspiration kitchen. You can make this your dream kitchen.

Reply to: Hi Daphne! I don't think you're out of luck at all. With the right furniture, rugs and accessories I think you could definitely achieve a Scandanavian look. Opt white to brighten the room and to give it flexibility to decorate with statement items Hope this little bit helps!

Reply to: A Makingspace, We have Benjamin Moore's Maritime White OC-5 with our natural red oak floors (which of course are more yellowish). It looks great, though it is definitely a warmer gray note.

Reply to: We chose Benjamin Moore Iron Mountain for the paint color. Brick fireplace wall is finished. Hearth painting is in progress (only primer so far). As for decor I’m thinking just something over the mantle and maybe skip putting anything on the mantle. Any other suggestions?

Reply to: Progress update: The room was repainted in SW Collonade Gray (same as kitchen and dining). The fireplace was scrubbed and washed a few days ago and received a coat of tinted primer today. (Primer was tinted at 75% Kendall Charcoal). Love the updated look already! Will try out samples of BM Kendall Charcoal and BM Iron Mountain in eggshell finish tomorrow. The hearth will be done last. Thanks again for taking the time to read my posts and all the great advice!

Reply to: I was initially looking for a floor without a bevel since my hardwood on my main level has one and I do not care for it. I thought I was settling when I chose SUPERcore Gunstock because it was the color and movement that fit best with my house. Prior to installation, my husband and I really did not like the bevel when we racked out a few boards experimenting with the lock. However, now that it is installed I love the look!! It's a painted micro-bevel that does not collect crud. I have a 90 lb messy, sloppy lab that gets food and water in the laundry room. He tends to take mouthfuls with him everywhere!! His messes cleanup easy. I'm also happy to report that we did not manage to scratch the floor during installation, even with constantly moving our heavy furniture and washer/dryer. My saga begins with a burst pipe last spring. After discovering this thread and comparing local flooring I decided I really wanted SuperCore but wanted to try to wait for the new colors, partially because I thought I needed light colors and no bevel. My siblings were descending on me July 11 so I was running very close to having a torn up lower level if I did not order by mid June. Customer service has been superb! Zoe coordinated with me and sent the new samples the day they received them. After all that waiting, I chose Gunstock because I decided the gray tones did not go with the warm hardwood I have on my upper level. As others have experienced, I really have to emphasize how great it was to work with Zoe. She really cares about our flooring experience and wants us to be happy. I ordered through her on June 24 and took delivery of the flooring on June 26. It took my husband and I roughly 3 1/2 days to install 600 sq ft in my lower floor family room, guest room, powder, and laundry. The most difficult part were the doorways, close quarters and lots of furniture in the way. This is part of a whole floor renovation of which we still have a ton of work but I wanted to share a sneak preview of the floors. We finished enough for our guest's visit and put the floors to the test right away with 3 dogs, 2 cats, 8 adults, and a wild 4 year old. Not a scratch - which makes me happy and was a major reason I was looking for a lighter floor!! Here is my newly installed SUPERcore Gunstock Xtreme. I am very pleased!! This is Supercore Essentials: Moose Lodge I couldn't find any installed pictures of this color when we were looking, so if anyone else is interested in this color, I hope it helps! It has a gray-brown tint with several areas of lighter tan/yellow. In direct sunlight it looks pretty light golden brown, but as you can see in the hallway, it can also look pretty dark. Plenty of variation, and we're very impressed with the color. I'm glad we chose it even without any install pictures.
