This feels really good to me. Love the hearth, the simplicity of the features. It's a little stark, though.
if the brick were light/white, and the area above the mantel colored...
I like how clean this looks. I wouldn't do cubical shelves, though, nor bricks, but perhaps tile around the fireplace instead of brick.
This is charming - simple but nice built-ins, a bit of color. I wouldn't prefer the columns on the fireplace surround, but like the mantle.
The continuous line from wall to wall, including the mantle, is interesting. I really like the fireplace surround.
