For such a short walk I see no advantage to making it narrower than the full width of the steps, for the full length of its run. The effect will be a much more welcoming looking home. I'm against the cost cutting trend of eliminating cheekwalls as they not only serve purposes, but catapult the home, walk and steps to a higher status and are all around better looking. I'm not showing railings but they'd be needed. Instead of placing 5 steps at the home and 1 at the street, it would be a little nicer to split them up a little more evenly. I'm doing 4/2 here so not too much grading would need changing. (The steps should be calculated carefully to make sure that they are uniform and that no more are necessary to accommodate the overall grade difference and that none of them exceed 7" maximum. A little less could be better but this requires a careful balancing act so nothing is out of whack. Constructing the steps and walk out of concrete would look fine and be durable.
