I've been in the process of trying to redo my kitchen for about 2 years. I have such a hard time making decisions, and then get overwhelmed and just give up.

We're probably leaving the layout. I don't think there's many options otherwise (I wish!). I know the island leaves a narrow walkway, but I'm used to it. I'd like to keep my island because I use it every day for prep. I'd miss it.

We plan to get new cabinets, counter, floor, hardware, lights, and furniture. I want this space to be transformed, both the kitchen and the nook. I want to pull the kitchen and nook together into a cohesive space.

I see so many kitchens I love, but I feel like my options are so limited with my narrow U shaped kitchen. So I worry that I'll end up with the same boring space but just a different color...hoping that's not the case!

I think I'm going to go with white uppers and gray/greige lowers, or possibly just a different color on the island. I worry that my narrow island alone won't be enough to support a different color though. And also worry if I do two tone I'll have the full size fridge panel on one side but then uppers and lowers on the other...so it won't match.

Here are some of my potential designs. I may or may not do the pantry built in panty. Don't need the space, I was just thinking to use it to hide the microwave. We have a walk in pantry near the nook where I store all the food. We have more cabinets than we even need...I don't use all the ones I currently have (good problem to have i guess).

Someone suggested moving the fridge to the window wall and leaving the current fridge wall blank. Will this be lopsided with a blank wall there? Also, the fridge would block what little window light we get (very shady yard). And I'm concerned with the fridge there by our sitting area would have the doors opening and getting in the way of the table. Also, the fridge would then be in hhe main traffic area into the kitchen area. Especially because we only have a limited space for walkways. It would be narrow.

Also, I'm not sure what to do with the ceiling.

My cab company offers only stacked boxes: 48 (30 cab plus 18 box). I don't usually love this look, I feel like it can be busy and sometimes really traditional. Also, with my u shape, it seems like it would be A LOT of stacked boxes all the way around.

Storage is not an issue at all. We have a large walk in pantry and barely use all the cabinets we currently have.

So for the ceiling, would I get the best look based on my inspiration photos by doing the

1. stacked boxes

2. 42 (like i have) and just leave my current crown on the ceiling

3. 42 and build up to the ceiling with moulding and fascia.

Not sure what will give me the best look.

ANY thoughts or help is appreciated!!!

Specific requests:

If there is another option for making the layout look "fresh and updated" without drastically changing the layout (not in the budget)?

Would moving the fridge to the window wall cause issues like I think I might?

Help with the idea of two-tone. I want to make sure it makes sense and looks like it belongs.

Help with what to do about the cabinets going to the ceiling. Thinking that even though the stacked boxes might not be my favorite, that might be the best option.
