Although there’s undercabinet lighting here, DeWitt avoided recessed lighting in the ceiling, which he lowered to bring a human scale to the room. Instead, he installed a row of double pendant lights down the center of the kitchen. “There’s something unattractive about recessed lighting,” he says. “And certainly Victorians wouldn’t have had lighting like that.”

The ceiling height was set at 8 feet, but Triggs didn’t shy away from covering it with rustic wood and beams. “It gives the space texture and a clubby feel,” she says.
bedding - crisp, white, not fussy
Pietra Cordosa. “It’s like a combination of soapstone and slate,” she describes. “We chose a very honed, plain finish for it.”
Now all of the everyday pieces fit into the tall armoire-inspired cabinet on the right. “It was important that the cabinets look authentic rather than trendy,” Churchill says. Without all of the bulk of typical cabinet arrangements, the room feels much more open. “When it comes to cabinets, if you build it, you will fill it,” Dana says. “I can keep the large items like paella pans and lobster pots I use once a year in the basement.” Tip: When designing cabinets, finding the right depth is key. The armoire cabinet, for instance, was designed to be deep enough to accommodate dinner plates.
this hutch is a bit too "shabby chic" but seems like right size/concept for our DR

fireplace in kitchen/dr view…still a wish

we could consider this on our lower stair landing while we're messing around in there to change window anyway?
love idea of towel bar by sink for hand towels. LOVE THESE WINDOWS.
if we spring for an oversized sink like this we could center it on 2 of the 4 windows??
how will we get this element of lived in/inviting/warmth in our kitchen?
would be neat to hang a hammock somewhere. also want tether ball out back if we can or some other use of the flat gravel space; love the mix of wood patio furniture, adirondack chairs, etc
cozy living room -- invite people in!!!!

not style but concept of 3 layers of doors that could close off the room
movable room divider
The Carrara marble subway tile incorporates the colors above and below it, so you’re less aware of the differences between the two — it all seems to form a unified whole.
I love an all-white kitchen, but I know a lot of people are sick of them. Here’s a great compromise: White upper cabinets and counters, and base cabinets painted a dreamy gray-blue. The result feels classic, like an all-white kitchen, but has a lot more individuality.
color on lowers, white on uppers?
The elevated slab hearth is a signature for Albertsson, who likes to use the space underneath a fireplace as storage for paper, kindling and games.
Two oversize doors create a movable room divider between the dining area and the sunporch/dog room. In this photo they are stacked one behind the other in the middle, but they can completely close off the room. When pushed in like this, they create a backdrop for the reclaimed-chestnut dining table and provide an easy flow from the sunporch to the rest of the open space. AWESOME CONCEPT - WONDER IF WE COULD PULL THIS OFF BETWEEN KITCHEN/DININGLIVNG ON SMALLER SCALE?
