Flat. Simple but stylish, the flat-panel cabinet door is void of any expensive details. Its hard lines and minimalist form make it a great fit for contemporary and modern interiors. Many flat doors come in decorative laminate or wood. Laminate tends to be more budget friendly and offers a greater variety of colors and sheens.
A window-style aquarium adds playfulness to an otherwise stiff wine cellar.
This fixture certainly departs from the simple finishes of the rest of the house, pointing to this space being contemporary.
The glass-walled wine storage aligns with the wood cabinets, but it is so much unlike the rest of the kitchen that it is clearly a contemporary touch.
Cool stove hood. Contemporary. A similarly simple but complex baseboard detail is found in this house (the wall extends out farther than the baseboard), but the angled and overlapping ceiling planes are much too playful to be modern, the way I consider the term. Steel fireplace with floating mantle: Lind stripped the fireplace of its original painted brick and colonial-style mantel, adding materials that correspond elsewhere in the house: patinated steel, black granite and a poured concrete hearth that's cantilevered out.
Geometric chandelier: This light fixture is a geometric interpretation of nature, a branch represented in hard angles and straight lines. So lovely.
These terra-cotta pipes are cut to fit wine bottles. I love the earthy color and texture of this display. As a bonus, the terra-cotta helps keeps the wine at a cool temperature.

Deep blue serenity. Dark blue is considered a good color to use in a bedroom, as it evokes deep calm and serenity.
If you have an open kitchen and you prefer to stain your cabinets, go for a dark finish. Deeper stains provide a rich, elegant look that also help to make a cavernous kitchen feel more welcoming.
