Hi! Our shelves are not adjustable. Great idea though! They are upheld with galvanized pipes that have threads at the ends only. The shelves are 12 inches deep, and the pipes are 7 inches from the wall. In addition to the pipes bearing the weight of the shelves, the shelves themselves are secured with screws going into the studs. Hope that helps!
