We like the use of multiple shade sails. A single shade sail might not provide enough coverage but one huge one takes away a bit of the "fun."

We like the look of the redwood patio cover for sure, but if shade sails are significantly cheaper (and provide more protection from pooping birds... a problem currently!) then maybe they are a better option for us now. We can instead invest in upgrading other parts of our yard now. The shade sails will presumably wear out a lot sooner than the patio cover and when they do, we might be in a financial situation where we can afford the patio cover.

If we have a bench-like section, I have not decided if I prefer it to be concrete like the one with the blue cushions or wood, like this one. Wood might break up the concrete expanse a bit, for the best.

We like this idea for a seat wall the most... like the look of it, like the "planter box" effect, and we don't really have a need for significant "lounging" space right now as in the other idea photos. But, we definitely like the idea of having a place to sit and chat with guests and/or watch the kids play, etc.

Perhaps there could be one "nook" of the seat wall that is more bench-like (a small-scale, angular version of this one), with the majority of the seat wall being more like a retaining wall/planter box like the next image in this set?
