Patricia B. Warren, AIA Warren Architecture, LLC The deepest overhang is 15". The mesquite top is reinforced underneath with a 3/4" thick underlayment of baltic birch plywood. This was inset into the mesquite, for a total thickness of 1 1/4". It is very solid. The cherry "skirt" around the edge of the countertop is decorative, not structural.
