So .... a credenza is apparently another name for a buffet or sideboard which is a long and low piece of furniture most often found in a dining or living room. Though it’s typically used for storing utensils, table linens, serving dishes and the like, it provides lots of functional storage and surface space when repurposed as a bathroom vanity.
Lei cleaned the entire dresser with a very mild solution of soap and water, then deep-cleaned it with orange oil, which “really brought out the wood grain and color,” she says. She then touched up nicks and scratches and used Waterlox Original sealer to seal the tops, sides and drawers. “Sealing it took about a week because you have to wait 24 hours between coats, but it was so worth it,” she says. Dan then used patterns that came with the sinks to cut holes in the top of the dresser. cabinetry used in wet area daily need to be specially treated not only on the top, but on the front and sides as well, especially if the piece contains plied wood. Over time, the moisture in the bathroom from showering steam will cause the wood to swell and buckle, even with exhaust fans. Treat the wood with the same sealer used on boats, use glass or plexi windows in the piece to offset to moisture, or paint with water resistant paint or decking stain/sealer. Also, as our population continues to grow taller, designers need to understand the value of installing "kitchen height" cabinetry in bathrooms. Most of these pieces can easily be altered to 36", perfect for preserving lower backs.
Lovely old dresser in bathroom. There are a few things that can help protect your wooden furniture in bathrooms from moisture. A really good exhaust system will help a lot. You can also put a good quality finish on your pieces. We like to use Marine and Airplane finishes for protecting our furniture.
This antique console was designed to be placed against a wall. It has a shallow depth so as not to obstruct passage around it, which also makes it a great choice for a bathroom in which space is at a premium. The console has been transformed into a double vanity with a full countertop that suits its traditional style.
