This previously renovated federation home had a generous garden area that required attention. With a brief to bring the garden up to date but still reference the traditional features / architecture a soft natural material palette of sandstone brick retaining with large format tiling was applied. Lush perimeter planting provides the structure and the necessary privacy while the layers of more traditional planting such as Buxus, Lavender and native violet further enhance the formal style and reference the traditional period of the home.
Bougainvillea has been used to frame the lower terrace level and Juniperus and pencil pines used around the pool to add Mediterranean accents. The result is a relaxed and inviting space that the family uses year round.

Style up your indoor/ outdoor break out space to make for a tranquil and comforting lounge area. Bring the nature to you, add trees and evergreen shrubs to create the perfect Zen relaxation space. Make comfort the main attraction with cozy outdoor armchairs in different materials to add texture. Elements of timber decking and wooden furniture gives the space a polished yet casual feel.

This pool and garden design in Drummoyne needed a complete overhaul to realise its obvious potential.
It was a large space but practically unusable given the small paving area adjacent to the house as well as a sloping lawn and pinched pool area.
We decided to create three distinct levels or layers within the garden to maximise the use of each outdoor space.
The lower level was given to outdoor entertaining with a covered louvered pergola and in-built seating.
The middle layer was to be a large level lawn for the kids and dogs to play.
The upper layer is now the pool level incorporating a decking seating area and Travertine paving.
The layers have been linked together with the use of materials from the beautiful sandstone retaining walls, through the decking and the travertine paving.
The planting is a vibrant mix of foliage and flowers creating interest and screening in equal measure.
Garden lighting extends the use of the garden and can be enjoyed even when not using the space by highlighting the feature plants and features.

Doesn't this picture make you feel happy ! It was taken in late January after being in bloom for a few weeks and expected to continue to the end of March if not a bit later. My client had a Cedar tree with scrappy undergrowth in the main lawn. I proposed clearing all the mess out and carpet planting with these Cyclamen. We have also mixed in autumn flowering Cyclamen to give a second flush in October and November !

Design ideas for a medium sized contemporary driveway full sun garden in Milan with gravel.

Paying homage to the foundry and its history we have implemented lots of wonderful weathering corten steel in strong geometric wedges. Someone said 'its a bit rusty', we hope you like it, its a rich and developing patina that gets warmer in colour with age and works contextually with the original use of the building. We have designed a garden for a victorian foundry in Walsingham in North Norfolk converted into holiday cottages in the last decade. The foundry originally founded in 1809, making iron castings for farming industry, war casualties ended the male line and so in 1918 it was sold to the Wright family and they continued to trade until 1932, the depression caused its closure. In 1938 it was purchased by the Barnhams who made agricultural implements, pumps, firebowls, backplates, stokers, grates and ornamental fire baskets............ and so we have paid homage to the foundry and its history and implemented lots of wonderful weathering steel. The planting palette inlcudes large leafy hostas, ferns, grasses, hydrangeas and a mix of purple and yellow with a sprinkling of orange perennials.
