Our client, a family, have a mid century property in Upper Walthamstow. They approached Syndicate West Architects for ideas for a loft conversion and rear extension, expecting the ubiquitous "box on the back". Through the design process, we settled on something far more subtle and in keeping with the original house. Through focusing on material choices and context, including selecting hand-made bricks in a flemish bond, the architecture ties the new interventions together with the old. By following this approach through to the interior detailing, the spirit of the home lives on. The project was completed in Summer 2017.
