I worked with Alan throughout all phases of our large (and drastic) extension/renovation project, from initial concept, through planning permission application, construction tender design and issuance, builder selection, and all the way through completion of the project. To summarise, it was an absolute delight throughout and Alan/Adapt proved to be the perfect choice for our project. Having to plan and get the project delivered while living overseas meant we needed the most trustworthy, reliable, dependable design partner we could get. We had to make sure we select someone who isn't just on the same wavelength as us, but also someone who could effectively and confidently represent our interests with the local council, with the main contractor, and with the many client-nominated sub-contractors and suppliers. Alan was creative, supportive, genuinely helpful and forthcoming and truly fully committed to achieving the best possible result for us. He works to very high professional standards, always keeps to agreed timelines and stands behind his promises and commitments. Alan/Adapt made real substantial difference in keeping our contractors and suppliers honest and served as a great independent, objective reviewer of their work-products, creatively suggesting changes, work-arounds and solutions to emerging issues and challenges. On the personal side, I would say that it's been a very pleasant and enriching experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process and our interactions. I can safely say that without Alan/Adapt we would have never reached the same outcomes and I would gladly recommend Alan/Adapt to anyone considering a similar project.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Alan. We interviewed six architects for a substantial extension to an Edwardian House and our confidence in choosing him has been borne out by the resulting scheme. He understood and reflected our wishes from the outset and very quickly nailed the scheme we built, to our entire satisfaction. He was assiduous in working to our budget and proactive in suggesting potential savings. He has been quick, courteous, friendly, efficient and responsive throughout this eight month project. His costs were reasonable and competitive given the quality of the service given. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him, and indeed have already done so to friends.

I have worked with Alan now for some three years. I think of him as my assistant. When it comes to sourcing contractors; I am impatient and he chases them up. Alan has found me a good builder and we all seem to work in sympathy with one another, so very important when it is difficult to find reliable workers, one of whom is Alan himself, whether it is executing a large project; e.g. the Quinquennial, or being at the end of the phone where he can calmly discuss a situation. In fact we are compatible and I have come to think of Alan increasingly as a friend whom I can 'get things off my chest' whilst he remains professional. In applying for a faculty, he is present to meet the members of the Historic Churches Committee and the sign the work off on completion, a slow and painstaking operation, especially when three quotes are required for each project which has to be exercised under certain parameters, the building being listed Grade II. The same applies to a lesser extent with the Local Authority and building consent. All the Rules and Regulations one is up against in maintaining and conserving an historic building whilst trying to modernise it from within I am not up to date with. e.g. I hadn't realised the significance of the 'Equality Act' until just recently.

Designing our home renovation & extension with Alan has been a pleasure. He took our brief and budget and presented initial options that reflected both what we had outlined, while also incorporating his own ideas, style and affordable ‘wow’. The final result, a transformation of 70s standard into contemporary modern won over the Woking planners and the majority of our neighbours. Alan is competent, calm & patient, and, important in an architect, is conscious of the practical aspects of building – he fully understands costs and is excellent at guiding and balancing the decisions to be made to deliver to the brief, considering the budget. We came across Alan and Adapt Architecture quite by chance. We were looking for a company to design a rear extension for our chalet bungalow and looked at planning applications for a number of projects that were taking place in our road. One in particular stood out for us and that was a design carried out by Adapt Architecture. We did some further research looking at the Adapt Architecture website, Houzz and reading reviews and decided to contact Adapt via a web enquiry. Within half an hour Alan phoned us and came to discuss our ideas that afternoon. Further to our first meeting Alan provided us with a number of designs and innovative possibilities that really made us think hard about what we wanted. Alan has guided us through the design process and planning permission. We then got down to looking at what we required for each room and external landscaping with great attention to detail. He has also helped us through the tendering process to ensure we chose the most suitable contractor. We have ended up with a fantastic modern design and now can’t wait to have it built and see the end results. We would have no hesitation in recommending Alan and Adapt Architecture and using his services again. In fact early on in our project we were so impressed with Adapt that we recommended Alan to one of our neighbour's.

Alan @ adapt architecture was very professional and helpful through the whole process. He was also very patient and helped us focus our ideas into achieving the final plans we liked and had approved for our outbuilding conversion. We look forward to completing the project in 2021.

Alan provided a friendly & excellent service, he was a good communicator, had inspirational ideas, was very knowledgeable on all aspects of planning & helped us to achieve what we were looking for in our cottage extension. He took great care and consideration to ensure that we were happy with the final design and that it was sympathetic to our cottage and surroundings. It also sailed through planning in Spring 2018. We first used Alan from Adapt Architecture in 2014 and were very happy with his support and guidance throughout the whole process, so much so that we have again used Alan with our recent application for a Loft conversion in 2018. Alan always responded to any questions we had very quickly and kept us well informed through every stage of the drawings and application processes. I would definitely use Alan in the future if needed.

Adapt Architecture helped us with our rear extension consisting of a full width ground floor and half width first floor. When we first met we'd spoken to other architects already, who'd identified a number of potential problems but offered no solutions or vision. Adapt on the other hand immediately solved our issues for us and saw how our extension could work. They worked with us all through the design process and were very receptive to feedback and suggestions, right through to submitting planning application for us and helping us draft a contract with our builder. Our extension is now finished and everything we hoped for and, despite a north facing garden, the rear of the house is as promised much brighter than it was before.

It has taken me a while to get round to doing this review, but sitting in the finished article has made it easier to put a few thoughts down. Alan was recommended to us by a friend of ours who had used his services for their drawings. I had spent A few years prior to starting the work planning the work that we wanted to do on the house, so I had a fairly decent idea of what I wanted the extention to look like. When we engaged Alan's services, I highlighted the fact that I basically wanted a professional to put my laymans drawings into a format that could be used for our planning application and the blueprints for the builder. Alan helped us do just that, however was also gave us some invaluable ideas to enhance our plans along the way. Overall we had a great experience in working with Alan, who proved to be very professional, diligent and prompt in all our dealings with him.
