From the outset Chris inspired confidence. Initial site visit in 4” of snow and a satnav detour didn’t put him off. Professional throughout. Communication outstanding. A unique and challenging design. Chris rescued us as I’d naively designed and financially committed to manufacture of a complex Glulam structure. Curves, unusual materials, testing terrain all added difficulty. “There will be problems we don’t yet appreciate but we will solve them” was confidence inspiring and he was true to his word. Unfazed and without any formal plans he drew up a comprehensive quotation, design and building schedule. Contrary to many building projects we, by necessity, had to make material and design decisions as the project evolved. Credit to Chris for taking this on, I am eternally grateful. Lots of conversations and shared decisions, with Chris respecting my opinion but also pointing out where things could and should be done differently. A genuine collaboration. Started 3 weeks early! Garry, Alex and Travis were a delight to have on site. Polite, respectful, punctual and hard working, each with their own skill set. Site was spotless throughout despite working through freezing temperatures, gales and eventually a summer heatwave. All sub-contractors, deliveries, plant and equipment co-ordinated without a hitch. If there were any issues, I wasn’t aware of them…..which is how it should be. Workmanship absolutely first rate. Any problems rectified as they arose: frame footing redesign, frame installed misaligned (by frame manufacturer), ancient field drain uncovered, roof rainwater management, and perhaps most challenging a flaw in the frame design with too wide rafters made creating a smooth curve particularly challenging. Chris clearly works to a mantra: if it’s not good enough for my house, it’s not good enough here. The team tolerated with good grace my efforts to muck in and graft. Must be challenging having the client on site everyday and more so wanting to get involved. The project expanded to include a new 95m heavy duty railway sleeper boundary fence, that we designed and installed, relying heavily on Alex’s joinery skills and eye for detail to manage complex changes in gradient. Finished just about on time and on budget…..with time and cost additions for the un-planned fence. Remarkable given the challenging build, the number of design unknowns at the outset, testing ground sub soil (rock!), material indecision and finding and coordinating highly specialist subcontractors…..in particular the statement roof covering. Overall a first rate service from start to finish. Chris and his team pride themselves on providing a high end service not only in the finished product but also in the client experience of the process, the latter a priceless added value. Chris is excellent at keeping in touch throughout the project. He communicates well and explains how the process develops, is willing to step in immediately if there are any issues, and is always aware of how his team are progressing the scheme. He ensures that his very professional team keep on target by regular checks and contacts both in person and by phone. The costings are well laid out and adhered to, any extra charges are prior discussed and agreed to so there are no hidden surprises.

An exceptional project from start to finish. Chris and the team undertook a significant remodel/refurbishment of our large, dilapidated bungalow. We elected to remain in the property whilst the works were undertaken which, given this included a new heating system, added complexity to the project. Chris worked extremely hard to ensure the impact on us was kept to a minimum whilst not compromising on the quality of the finish - which is superb throughout. We’re particularly pleased with the attention to detail in every element of the project. Chris took the time to talk through the various aspects of the works and was never afraid to challenge our thinking and ideas to ensure we got the best possible results. This professional, uncompromising approach to building is quite unusual in the residential sector and really helped us achieve the quality to which we aspired. Chris and the team are highly recommended - you’ll do well to find better!

Chris and his team have just completed our third major building project and we are once again, delighted with the results. Chris is so helpful and really does go the extra mile to ensure that all the requirements of the build are met. We have challenged him as our projects have been very different to his normal work. we have new stables, a purrfect cattery and luxurious kennels. Nothing is a problem for his team, they are very skilled, clean and tidy when they work, friendly and polite and very easy to work around. We can honestly say that they are missed when they leave! We are planning to further upgrade the accommodation for our animals as funds allow and we will again be working with Chris and his team. It is so lovely to have found someone of this standard, we wouldn't go anywhere else!

Simply the best! Chris was incredibly helpful and professional with both major projects he completed for us, despite it being totally new to him. Chris and his team built a new stable block and cattery to the very highest standard, with minimal disruption to our working environment and with the site kept tidy and clean at all times. Gary, Ben and Alex were with us for over 6 months, they worked incredibly hard in at times, adverse weather conditions and were totally focused on completing the work within the timescale. We are beyond delighted with the very high standards of workmanship and attention to detail. We cannot recommend Chris and his team highly enough, we certainly would not consider using any other builder for future projects. A huge thank from us and our animals living in their luxury accommodation!

the fact that i am writing my first ever review at 48 years old says alot. Working with Chris and his team has been an absolute pleasure. dont get me wrong, having a bunch of workmen in your house for 4-5months can be tiring, however we couldnt have picked a better bunch to have had working. key factors: professionalism 10/10 reliability 10/10 attitude 10/10 cleanliness 10/10 helpfulness 10/10 Chris is 100% professional and runs a project like clockwork. if he says someone is coming they come. we had the team on site every day for the full duration of the project, unlike many builders who are pulling guys of left right and centre. Chris and the teams attitude was as if they were working on their own homes. the site and house was cleared and tidied up every afternoon and then a full deep clean at the end of the project. Chris helped so much with planners, sub contractors, problem neighbours... advice and guidance. he continues to do so post project. the service provided was a full 360 service and the input my wife and I had to give was minimal. I hope to have the pleasure of working with Chris and the team again in future. anyone reading this message, please trust me as I am in the industry, you will be hard pushed to find a better company, leader and team to work with. We had used Chris to do a house renovation previously although on a much smaller scale. Chris was always happy to give advice or help with anything building wise even months after completion so we had no hesitation using Chris again on our forever home project. Chris helped us with the design, planning and build and his guidance, as always, was invaluable. This project involved ripping out existing electrical and heating systems, removal of an existing staircase and an extension which has almost doubled the size of the house. Chris also built a feature fireplace in one of the reception rooms using the orignal brick from the dismantled fireplace which looks absoultely amazing. Honesly, if you're looking for someone who will offer guidance but not dictate and someone who will take absolute pride in his work then look no further.

Chris and his team were superb! Every little detail was considered. Chris was on site every day to discuss the ongoing construction and pre-empting any upcoming decisions well in advance to avoid delays. Chris started major construction to our property in September 2021 to be completed by September 2022. The work is completed couple of weeks before completion date. We were kept informed of progress at every stage and were consulted at each step. Chris and his team ensured that the place was kept tidy during construction period. Although the property was vacant during the project, feed back I got from neighbours was that Chris and his team were polite and very professional when couple of people were unhappy with the usual construction noise. My husband and I will not have no hesitation in recommending Chris Hunter constructions for big or small project. We hope to engage this company in any future construction if and when required.
