A challenging staircase handrail renewal over four floors was masterfully completed. Handrail turns at each landing had to be carefully engineered given the narrow stair well, The team came to the house on two occasions to survey the requirements and take measurements for the drawings which were given to me for approval. The installation date was agreed easily to suit my availability as a week was needed to complete the job. Both manager, consultant, joiner, and carpenter were pleasant and professional throughout the week and finished the project on time and on tendered price. A price which I thought was quite reasonable, given the softwood handrail was replaced with a clear lacquered oak handrail, together with new newel posts. A most satisfactory job.

So pleased with our new oak spindles and handrails on our staircase - wish we’d replaced the nasty panels years ago! Richard did a great job - was on time, cleared up mess etc and a sensible price. Highly recommended

I am very pleased with the glass panels and oak handrails, the result is spectacular. Maintenance will be much easier - no fiddly repainting of spindles. Richard is meticulous in his work, and is a very pleasant person too.

Richard and his team manufactured and installed a media wall in our living room. Design was shelving in the alcoves with LED lights and shaker units, chimney breast was built out slighty with framing for TV, soundbar and electric fireplace. Excellent work and we are really pleased with the end product. The units were built 'offsite' so there was minimal disruption in the house. The main installation took 2 days and then Richard returned on the third day just to carry out any making good and final touching up. Very pleased.

Richard did the most fantastic job renovating our staircase - we are over the moon with it! Richard came over for an initial visit so he could find out exactly the kind of thing we wanted, after which he provided a comprehensive and competitive quote for the work. Richard and Evergreen helped me with a tricky staircase refurb. I'd been tearing my hair out trying to come up with a plan to modernise my varnished pine staircase as it's in the middle of the living room ie has banisters both sides, as well as a short balcony section round the landing. Stair refurb companies quoted me the best part of £10k to upgrade it!! I'd also asked an interior designer but she just came up with ideas that turned out to be impractical and not suitable for stairs. Luckily I found Evergreen via Houzz and Richard straightaway came up with a plan for a fraction of the cost. They changed my spindles for more modern ones (pre-primed to reduce painting time) and bought an orbital sander to remove the varnish from both the tops and undersides of the steps, and also sanded the handrail for me with wire wool, all done in a day. They also advised me on paint and woodstain so I could do the decoration myself. I'm really pleased with the end result - thanks to the team for making the job both affordable and practical!

This was one of the best experiences, we have had with a contracting company, specializing in stairs. I had popped into Evergreen Joinery on Caterham on the Hill, whilst visiting my dentist. The purpose of my visit was to get a quote to upgrade the stairwell in my home. I was fortunate to meet Mandy who was manning the store on that day - she took my details and told me that she would ask Richard to come by and do a quote - as promised, so delivered. The meeting at our home went well and all needs were catered to, regarding the upgrade of the stairwell -- that had some unique requirements. I received the quote in a timely manner and decided, to have the work done, whilst my wife and I were away on vacation. On my return, the major portion of the work had been completed to a very high standard but,I still had a "snagging list" that needed attention. This was communicated to Richard and we agreed on a date for a revisit - The "snagging list" was taken care of in less than 2 hours. My wife and I are very pleased with the result. I would surely recommend this company and use them again, should the need arise.

It took me three years to decide on this project, how I wish I had made up my mind sooner! Richard's work has made our hallway lighter and more modern and generally lovely! Richard worked tirelessly to transform the staircase from mahogany to oak- methodically and efficiently and it was a pleasure to have him as part of the family for 4 days! I'd recommend his workmanship and the fact that there was none of the awkwardness that can sometimes accompany a workman into our home. Richard and his team did a fantastic job of refurbishing my staircase, so I had zero hesitation in getting him to look at replacing my cold and rattling patio doors. The bespoke replacement patio doors are stunning and better than I had seen in any shops for sure. Evergreen designed, manufactured and installed some bifold doors for us to separate the dining room from the conservatory. Their standard of workmanship is excellent, they arrived and installed the doors when they said they would, they were helpful, very tidy and very professional. We’re very pleased with the end result, the doors are exactly as specified. I’d have no hesitation in recommending Evergreen Joinery.

Richard did a superb job installing a new window in our hallway. He kept us fully informed during the work and his attention to detail was second to none. He covered the floor and cleared everything up at the end. I would not hesitate to recommend him and his firm.

Richard and his team replaced our windows. While the windows look ok, installation took a long time and they were not painted until a year after installation resulting in the paint needing redoing within 2-3 years. Multiple windows have been leaking and Richard has been ignoring my calls and messages to fix this issue and an incorrect hinge on one of the windows. Very poor customer service. Avoid.

Richard and his team did a fantastic job installing a glass and oak staircase. It looks much better than those produced by a certain well known retailer, for about a third of the price. Richard Colwill sets himself the highest standards of service and delivers. He produces work of very high quality and his inventive ability and "can do" attitude are second to none. It is always a pleasure to ask him to undertake work, and we have always been delighted with the product. I approached Richard to refurbish the tired old staircase in our circa 1875 cottage. We have been refurbishing the building and wanted the staircase to both be a 'feature' in the hallway, but also to tie in with the style of the property. Richard was very prompt in his reply to my enquiry and quickly booked in a date to do a site visit. He understood what we were trying to achieve and made some helpful suggestions about spindle and newel post designs, as well as the handrail and first tread. We found Richard extremely polite and efficient in his dealings with us and added to this the new staircase is beautifully made and is a real asset to our home. I cannot fault Eevergreen on any aspect of my dealings with them and would highly recommend them to someone who is looking for high quality work.

We chose Evergreen in Caterham for new wooden flooring because they came recommended and are very local to us. Richard came to measure up and discuss our requirements and we went with his recommendation for engineered oak from another excellent company called Floorsave. Richard arrived promptly on the fitting day with two colleagues and was friendly and courteous throughout. I was happy to leave the three of them to it while I went to work and when I came home, well the result was breathtaking. The floor looks absolutely incredible! The excellent quality of the work is clear to see. I had been able to get the skirting and woodwork repainted before Richard came and I was most impressed that they managed to butt the wood right up to the skirting, giving the illusion that it goes underneath and so there was no need for beading. The finishing is superb. Also the choice of wood is perfect for our house. I would wholeheartedly recommend this company, not least for the quality of workmanship but also because Richard was so lovely to deal with (they also have the best Christmas window display!).

We looked at many companies that would update and modernise our hall stairways and landing, before we came across Evergreen Joinery. Richard Colwill the owner, made a site visit and was able to advise us on the best option. We chose light oak square spindles, hand rails and fittings. We discussed pricing and found that Evergreen was very competitive when compared with the leading brands and our first reaction was should we be concerned. However, we decided to follow our instincts and without any pressure from Richard, chose Evergreen. A 10 week lead time was quoted and this coincided with the date we had chosen to decorate the hallway. Exactly to the day given, Richard, Justin and Matt arrived and, in spite of the fact the decorator was already working in the hall, they started the work. In just under 2 days, the old stair way was removed and new modern light oak one put in place. The work ethic was excellent and to a very professional standard and all was managed smoothly working alongside the decorator and with a minimum interruption. The fact that they were able to carry out the joinery work using light machinery in the garage meant that there was no concern with the weather or dust in the house. Although this would not have been a problem as Matt and Justin made an excellent job of clearing everything up when all was finished. The final result is that we have modernised our hallway with beautiful light oak stairs at a very competitive price. I have no hesitation in recommending Evergreen Joinery and will certainly use them again should the need arise.

We were looking to completely update and modernise our Hall Stairs and Galleried Landing. Part of the project was to replace the wooden mock Victorian spindle staircase with something completely modern and contemporary. After considerable internet and other research we came across Evergreen Joinery who are based in Caterham, Surrey. Richard the Owner came to our house to talk about what we were imagining and show us some images of similar projects that he had completed. From this we were able to be clearer about what we wanted and listen to some suggestions that we hadn’t thought of. Richard then went away and came up with a design that was by then close to what we wanted. After a little more discussion, and with Richard’s expert input, we were able to finalise the design to exactly the glass balustrade and metal handrail arrangement that we had been looking for. He is entirely happy and keen to work in a collaborative way to ensure his Clients get exactly what they are looking for. The work was completed by Richard himself in several stages because of the nature of the work involved. This meant initially removing the old wooden spindles and handrail, modifying the Newel posts and then later installing the new custom made glass balustrade and handrail. Our staircase and landing has now been transformed in the way we wanted. Thank you Richard for taking the time and trouble to help us with the design and then install what is now a stunning central feature of our house. People are amazed at the transformation !! NB. Richard listened to our specifications then sat down and drew out the plans. He came back twice to measure and go through the designs drawn and discussed the material. I originally found Evergreen Joinery on this site when I was researching refurbished staircases and was particularly keen to use a local company. I went to have a look at their shop in Caterham which has samples of the staircases they have done and decided to get a quote. From the moment Richard came to our house to give us a quote in August 2020, I knew that we would give him the job. He’s a lovely guy and clearly an expert in his field and takes a great deal of pride in his work. We had an old white wooden staircase over 3 floors and refurbished to oak with toughened glass which has transformed the house. We are over the moon with the results and can honestly say that both Richard and Thomas are excellent at what they do and pay a lot of attention to detail. We are also in the process of replacing our white fire doors to oak fire doors which Richard and Thomas are fitting for us and again we are more than pleased with their work. I would not hesitate in recommending Evergreen Joinery and have already given their number to a couple of interested people.

Evergreen was commissioned to build and install fitted bookcases in my study. After a full discussion of the detailed requirement I was supplied with a detailed drawing of the units to be installed , once these were agreed , the manufacture and installation went according to plan. We had agreed that the ladder necessary to reach the topmost shelves would be measured and manufactured once the initial installation was complete. Lockdown interrupted completion of the ladder but once things were back to normal the ladder rail and ladder were supplied and installed. Satisfied? Yes!

The Evergreen Joinery firm has constructed two sets of Bi Fold glass doors for us. One set is between the conservatory and the television room and the other between the music room and the sitting room. Both have improved the appearance of the rooms and have improved the amount of natural light. Privacy between the music and sitting rooms has been achieved by the use of a combination of clear laminated glass on one side and toughened obscured glass on the other side of each panel. The fully opened doors are very effective in providing completely unencumbered spaces between the rooms. We are impressed with the appearance and the effectiveness of these doors and the work of the Evergreen firm is of a very high standard.

I first ordered the fitted wardrobe in March of this year but sadly the project was held up because of the lockdown, however, I was kept informed by email along the way. Now that the project has been completed, I have a lovely fitted wardrobe and am so pleased with the result. Thank you to all at Evergreen Joinery.

After much research I came across Richard and Evergreen Joinery and i was not disappointed. From the start, Richard always arrived on time and was friendly and straight froward. As we progressed things it was clear what I was to expect with regards to an oak and glass stair refurbishment. Despite me giving him a couple of special requests such as to tuck in wires that had been attached to the existing stairs over the years and to stain the oak wood to match our oak door colour, he rose up to these and delivered to an excellent standard. We then were hit with the coronavirus pandemic which meant the job was paused, however Richard was excellent at communication during this period and when we eventually got green light from the lockdown to resume working, Richard was right back round to complete the job, which was greatly appreciated. Having done an extensive search on the internet we found Evergreen Joinery. Richard came to visit and advised on updating our old and dark staircase using new oak spindles and cladding. This approach was certainly the most cost effective option compared to some of the prices I had seen. The end result is fantastic. Richard is a very careful and methodical worker and pays attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

I discovered Evergreen from their shop window in Caterham, Surrey, Displaying finished Oak Doors and a section of a Staircase in 2016. Richard came to visit my home and prepared a quote to replace my Front Door and spruce up my Staircase, that was a depressing mahogany brown in colour and very dated. His ideas and vision painted an indelible picture in my mind one that I knew was currently out of my financial reach but not too expensive that I was not prepared to save for. Almost 3 years later I contracted Evergreen to undertake the modernising of my staircase, and the final result, was an entire transformation of the property, it has brightened the property up, made it look clean and modern and for sure it must have added considerable value. Richard's approach was one of punctuality, reliability, honesty & tidy craftsmanship. He worked to a tight timeframe to please me, as it was Christmas and I wanted the works completed. He made No additional charges from his original quote and I could not recommend this company enough.

Evergreen joinery helped transform our old 60’s ‘Brady bunch’ style bannister into a gorgeous, elegant and fresh solid oak bannister with delicate spindles... its completely transformed out hallway! Steve was quick, efficient and left not a spot of mess. And the finish of the staircase is of such a high quality standard. Would highly recommend.

Happy to provide this review as a couple of years ago Richard renovated our staircase which was made of pine with poorly fitted Newell posts. Evergreen Joinery strengthened the staircase and clad the old pine in Oak and replaced the posts with glazed panels creating a contemporary style. A National Staircase company had told us that it couldn't be done and wanted £18k Richard proved that it could at half the price. Fine carpentry and an excellent service.

Evergreen Joinery delivered on spec and cost bespoke designed and built oak bifold doors. They were flexible and imaginative in the design stage, attentive and efficient during installation. They managed contractor doing the building work to accommodate increasing the height, removal of existing lintel and insertion of replacement beam, making end on double brick arch opening. Evergreen also secured appropriate local planning building approval in place of Fensa certificate. We were very pleased with the result- beautiful doors.
