About Us

foundations architects & designers is a Farnham based practice specialising in residential projects, offering a fully comprehensive range of services. We also undertake commercial projects, offering the same high quality service as for our private clients. The practice was established by JK Wilson RIBA, who has 25 years’ experience as a qualified architect and who has been practising in Farnham for nearly 15 years. The practice also employs a number of very experienced and talented architects and designers, offering high quality design service within a simple and transparent fee structure. We enjoy working on buildings of every genre and work with clients to choose the best style for their house, whether modern or classical, contemporary or Arts & Crafts. We like to describe our style as a contemporary take on the fun and eclecticism of the Arts & Crafts movement but we are equally comfortable working within the strict proportional rules of Classicism and the freedom of Modernism. What links all of our projects is a commitment to quality of design, thorough and robust construction detailing, and ensuring our clients get exactly what they want and need for their projects.

Registered in UK and Spain, we are members of both the RIBA and COAR, the Official College of Architects of La Rioja, Spain. We have won a number of national and international awards for our work, from the RIBA and other organisations.

We met several architects before we chose to work with John. John stood out above the rest as he was able to bring fresh ideas and innovation that we hadn't even considered. Straight away we knew that we wanted to work with John to find a creative solution for our quirky character property. We also chose John for his expertise when it came to planning permission as our property had previously been extended and the new extension took it over the council limits. However, John worked really hard to find a solution to get us successfully through the planning process. He is very talented and easy to work with. No other architect came up with a design we loved so much.

John helped with a single storey extension to our kitchen and slight reconfiguration of adjacent rooms. He came up with a very imaginative design which has completely transformed the space. It now works perfectly for our family and makes much better sense for the house, as well as having great impact from inside and out.

Andrew Wilson

John is an inspirational and highly knowledgable architect with a terrific team behind him. He extended our listed home in a contemporary style completely sensitive to, and attuned with, the original architectural design. In fact he knew the original architect's work and used his knowledge to guide the planning application and persuade the listed building inspectors. He listened intently to our needs and was able to quickly adapt to meet them. We've used him twice and fully intend to use Foundations again if we move.
