We engaged with James early 2018 as we planned to completely rebuild our property. We had a very aggressive timescale which meant James needed to be creative in his design to help accommodate our needs and requirements. James also liaised exceptionally well with our building contractor which meant the project stayed on course and with very little issue. We wanted to use a local architect so we had him to hand if needed of which he was. He comes highly recommended and would pass his name on to anyone looking to renovate.

James was very helpful from the start of the design process and throughout the build. We encountered a minor issue with the design during construction and were very impressed with how he worked to come up with a solution that we were quickly able to implement. His communication with both us and other parties involved in the construction was very prompt and professional. Both my wife and I would highly recommand Hough Architecture.

James has been excellent in providing plans to meet my needs and within my budget. He listened to my requirements carefully and made adjustments to ensure the end result will give me the additional space and facilities I am looking for. Work on my extension is due to begin within the next few weeks and I am looking forward to enjoying the end result very soon.

James understood exactly what I wanted in terms of style and function for my extension and was able to prepare detailed plans in a very good time. He made sensible recommendations and was able to suggest acceptable alternatives at all stages. The building contractors he engaged were excellent; clean and discrete and incredibly professional. James acted as project manager and go-between and was very 'hands-on' throughout the construction period. He is also a very nice, easy to get on with young man!

We approached James Hough to discuss our ideas for a domestic extension, having found his details via the RIBA. From the initial consultation to the completion of the project James was responsive to our needs and wishes; his designs for the extension reflected our ideas but presented them in ways we had not considered, which demonstrated creativity and sensitivity. We were delighted with the final designs; James responded promptly to our questions during the various stages of the project and was keen to ensure that we were kept informed about the progress of the planning application and the tender process. We were very impressed by James' professionalism and his courteous and calm approach, particularly when potentially problematic issues arose during the build. I instructed James to add an extension on to the front of my house. Not only did he create a far more interesting and useful space than I could have imagined but he provided us with regular updates as well as very accurate building timescales and build costs. When we moved into our" tired" 1920s cottage we could see it had potential, needed updating and the current layout didn`t flow however we really didn`t know where to start. James had done an excellent job for me designing an extension on a previous property( Wychwood Cottage, Oakhill) so without hesitation we knew he was the right person to help us with this project too. He listened to what we wanted from our home and on visiting immediately saw the solutions. He split the work into 3 phases and advised us of the order to do. As we are living in the property this provided the benefit of concentrating on one area at time, thereby allowing better control of our budget and securing the finish of one phase before moving one to the next and enabling a break between phases to restore our sanity rather than having to live on a building site for months on end and the risk of going over budget and unable to complete any areas. The first 2 phases were reconfiguring the current cottage to make full use of the space available. The 3 rd phase is an optional extra : the addition of an orangery which would increase space and enhance the current cottage and wonderful views it affords. We have now completed phase 1 which has most definitely provided the Cottage with the "Wow " factor achieved by knocking the existing back room and kitchen into a light airy kitchen/ diner with a working area flexible dining area and retaining the log burner and chilling out area with sofas. Altering the position of the door to the previously messy utility room has enabled a shower room with toilet to be put in whilst till retaining laundry facility, storage and space for the dogs. A stable door through optimises light and views but provides the option that any mess can be hidden if necessary! It really is a lovely space and so flexible now - all our visitors are amazed at the difference and love the light and airy homely feel. W are about to embark on phase 2 which involves swapping a bedroom and family bathroom. The bathroom will then be above the utility room which also houses the boiler with the outcome of a larger 3rd bedroom and all the unsightly pipework at the back of the house will disappear as all water and waste will be on one side of the building.
