We had known of Milton Architects for some years but finally got to start working with them on our own project in October 2018. First off, Mike and his team designed us a truly fabulous house, and then helped us through the planning and tendering process, before finally managing the build with our fantastic main contractor. The Milton team’s vision, passion and absolute understanding of what we wanted from our home were there from the outset and we felt in completely safe hands throughout.

Milton Architects designed the interior and exterior of our rebuild. The design was innovative and aesthetically very pleasing but more importantly they created an extremely practical, family friendly home. There communication (two-way, they listened to our needs) and professionalism throughout the process was exemplary. When we need architectural services again we will definitely be turning to Milton Architects again.

They've provided advice, design ideas and options which has been invaluable in making decisions for the project and made the process of planning approval as trouble free and convenient as possible. Mike and Amanda designed our garden room extension to replace an old wooden conservatory on our Victorian half timbered home. We wanted a modern extension to connect existing rooms and allow views of our garden. The result is fantastic and has totally transformed our main living space. It has surpassed our expectations in all respects. Milton’s worked with us throughout the project from initial consultation and architectural designs, to planning consent process, construction supervision and completion. Their guidance and support when shaping our brief combined experience and opinion in a sympathetic and honest manner. Their considerable experience in design and working with clients was clear from the outset. The ‘clean look / straight lines ’ design met our brief . Precise attention to detail has resulted in a stunning build where house and garden meet seamlessly. Differing heights and levels internally and externally have been managed to create an open and airy living space that is complemented by the external area with neat overhang, planting and steps area. Following the tender process, Milton's worked very well with the builders and supervision was excellent throughout. Regular site meetings dealt with minor revisions , any questions and where necessary being direct and firm to ensure timely completion. We have lived in the extension now for a year and it’s very clear how important thought and good design are in order to achieve the result you want. It is a real joy to walk into the area each morning and experience the light and outlook.

We chose Milton Architects having seen their website which showed a modern style of house that we aspired to. Our brief was to create a home full of light which sat well in its sloping site. From our first contact we were given time to explore what we wanted. We even received designs while on holiday in Australia. When the planning department indicated that they would turn down our planning application, Mike turned around a modified design in a week and planning consent was duly received. Now that we are in the house there is nothing we would wish to change; it is full of sunshine all day and flows well when guests are here. A great collaboration.

Milton Architects successfully achieved planning consent for a large side, rear and basement extension to a Grade II listed building located within a sensitive conservation areas, indeed the task was not easy. Amanda Milton did an excellent job in preparing planning drawings which complemented the character of the street whilst being focused on the client brief provided, Armada's Architectural design was a key factor in securing approval from the planners. Milton Architect were very professional, committed to the agreed deadlines and had a proactive approach throughout the project. Their fees were very transparent and without any hidden charges, highly recommended and without doubt money well spent.

The team at Milton provided an insightful, sensitive and yet modern twist to a difficult Listed Building project. They made the right balance between advancing the desire to grow the building without dwarfing the character of the structure. They worked hard to win over the planners at a formal pre-app meeting, made the right concessions at the right time and provided a timely service throughout. Consent was secured on a site with overlapping issues including nearby Listed buildings, a Conservation Area, a highly interested Parish and local heritage officers. The project took around 9 months to secure the consent and it is difficult to see how Milton played anything other than an instrumental role in this work. The end result, when built out, will be one of the most attractive properties in this Oxfordshire village and this is testament to the experience and dedication of Milton. As a result of this experience, I have recommended them to others.

Mike designed a replacement for a conservatory for us in 2010. He really took in our requirements and produced a very attractive design that looks great 7 years on and we expect will carry on looking great for the next few decades. The style is modern, but fits with our 1902 house and features such as the overhang to reduce the sun impact in the summer work really well. Mike and the team were professional and attentive to work with. I have attached a couple of photos - don't have access to the best ones currently, but think they give a taste. We enjoy this space immensely.

Buying a listed house for a complete “back to brick” renovation, in a town with no parking, is not everyone’s idea of bliss, but I can honestly say that with the Milton’s, design, council and listed buildings applications, gathering quotations and project management it was painless for us and the experience was delightful. I am glad to say we are all on excellent speaking terms and we would happily undertake another project with their help and enthusiasm.
