About Us

MW Architects is an award winning practice based in South East London, founded by Matthew Wood in 2009. Specialising in residential design we are passionate about improving people’s lives through good design. We are design led and draw on our extensive experience to create unique projects that exceed expectation and are of the highest possible architectural quality. We believe that good design adds significant value both financially and emotionally. Our extensive network of construction professionals all share our ‘can do’ approach and rise to the challange. MW Architects have completed numerous residential refurbishment projects across London and the South East of England with numerous residential refurbishments and new build projects for individuals and developers with construction values up to £2M. We are currently working on a large new build house in Hampstead and a contemporary new build home in the historic village of Alfriston in the South Downs National Park.

Since being commissioned to photograph an early project in 2012, we've established a great relationship with MW Architects and gone on to photograph much of their completed work. Always a personal dialogue and friendly approach to shoots, the quality of detail and creativity is hopefully clear in our images. Several projects have won or been shortlisted for recent awards, including NLA Don't Move Improve (winner, Cecilia Road) and Best of Houzz (2017).

I have had the pleasure of photographing MW Architects for the Homes and Property section of the Evening Standard. The project I shot was a cleverly and beautifully executed kitchen and loft extension . Not only was the project notable enough to be put in print, but so was his personal knowledge and experience. I recommend MW Architects based on the end result of this project. Matthew Wood's attention to quirky external details and maximisation of light into the property assures me that he is definitely worth 5 stars. He is also a most amiable chap.

In our day to day business designing and installing bespoke furniture, we work with a lot of architects, MW Architects are one of the best. Matthew is a gifted architect with a very technically competent and skilled team working at his side making their projects a reality. I really appreciate how they put their energy into fostering great working relationships with their clients and collaborators, it definitely pays dividends in the quality of the finished work.

We were very happy with the designs for our house, which included a rear extension, loft conversion and total refurbishment. The relationship was great between MW and us. They took on board all our requirements and they were happy to make suggestions as well. Matthew in particular is excellent with his work ethic, calm handling of any issues and found workable solutions for any issues that cropped up (and there were some unexpected issues!). Melissa and the team were very professional and in particular, with meeting deadlines and keeping us informed of any possible delays

We felt extremely well guided throughout the process and entirely trusted their sense of design. We were delighted with their recommendations for contractors and other suppliers.
