I’m Joe Twigg, the garden designer behind Patchworks Gardens. I’ve worked with gardens and landscapes for more than 20 years and founded Patchworks in 2009. Based in South London, I design thoughtful, characterful gardens for city homes. These range from compact courtyards and planting improvements to complete family-garden redesigns. I have a particular love of modern houses and enjoy thinking about the relationship between architecture, interior spaces and the garden. Whatever the age or style of the property, my aim is to create a garden that feels connected to the house, suits the people using it and becomes better with time. My background is rooted in practical landscaping, so I understand how gardens are built as well as how they should look and feel. Every project begins with listening. You may want somewhere peaceful, more room for entertaining, a garden that works for children, better planting, or a considered mixture of all of these. I develop the layout, materials and planting around those priorities rather than imposing a fixed style. Patchworks offers garden design, planting design and one-to-one consultations across South London. I can also prepare the information needed for accurate pricing and coordinate the build with trusted independent landscapers, remaining involved as the design takes shape on site. The result is a calm, layered and wildlife-friendly garden that feels personal to you and naturally belongs to your home.
