We engaged Kevin and The General Architecture Company because they came highly recommended by friends, their designs really appealed to us, and because they have lots of experience within the Bournville Conservation area where we live. Friendly, communicative and helpful thoughout all stages of the process, we were really happy with the final design and were delighted that Kevin could find solutions to our confined space that we would never have thought of, namely the ability to find space in the loft for a loft conversion, and even for a utility room and boot room downstairs in addition to the generous kitchen we had hoped for. Gaining planning permission has been a surprisingly smooth process and we are excited now for the technical drawing and to start the build. Would highly recommend Kevin for his clear and beautiful drawings, customer approach and knowledge of the local area.

In 2024 we hired General Architecture Company to design a single-storey extension to our home and were extremely happy with the whole experience. They provided us with a great selection of design options to choose from, listened carefully to what we wanted, and produced plans of excellent quality. Even our builders commented on how clear and well thought out the drawings were, which made the build much smoother. Kevin and the team have also been fantastic after the design stage, answering our questions quickly and always being willing to help. They were especially supportive in dealing with the local council planning department and building control, really fighting our corner and making the process much less stressful. We engaged with Matt to help us with a 2 storey side extension to our semi detached house in Bournville. We now have a wonderful finished product and we’re so happy with it. He really listened to what we wanted as we had a few key priorities for the build to achieve, whilst making sure it did not detract from the period house we started with. It was a challenging project, including dealing with all the requirements of a conservation area. But Matt came back to us with various ideas and talked through issues on a practical level, raising matters we would never have thought of. We had some delays due to various issues including approvals, design changes, materials sign offs etc. but Matt has helped us all the way through, helping us with practical matters such as planning and negotiations, to supporting us with other paperwork, other consultants and making recommendations for other specialists who could help us. He also helped us find the right builder and together they were a really great team. We would definitely recommend the team at GAC.

Kevin heped us turn our vision for our home into a reality. He modelled different options for our home which helped us decide on if we needed an extensios or not. Once we decided our direction he gave us insight into how the space could flow and maximise light in our space. Overall, Kevin was a great communicator and captured our ideas and requirements for the space in his designs and we are delighted with the end results!

We engaged The General Architecture Company Ltd having noticed a few striking developments led by them in Harborne / Edgbaston / Moseley and a friend of ours also used them a couple of years prior (and they were very satisfied too). Whilst we had a good idea as to what we wanted, Matt was able to add the bells and whistles which we simply could not have planned by ourselves - in particular a mixture of flat and gabled roofs to match the original Victorian roofline of our house. Matt was patient in working through the various iterations of the plans and coming up with a final design which had that wow factor, whilst being practical and fulfilling our brief of a light-filled family-friendly space. The plans went through local planning with ease, despite complex right of light concerns with our neighbour (who was redeveloping at the same time). Similarly, Matt worked well with the structural engineer to ensure the mixed rooflines supported each other without compromising the aesthetics (ie using pillars in a large open plan space). Our builder had no issues following the designs and the fly-through video allowed us to plan the interior fit out much earlier in the process (giving you that much needed positivity when the mud / build is at its worst). Matt was responsive throughout. Available when we had the odd query and simply took the often stressful planning element off our shoulders. We would definitely recommend them.

Kevin was wonderful for us and our project. He is a great listener, he understood what we wanted and gave us a series of alternative designs to choose from. He was very patient and always most helpful with us, and guided us gently and carefully to an ideal solution for our needs. We would have no hesitation in recommending him to neighbours and friends for their projects.

Living in the Conservation Area of Kinver, the design of our extension and garage was always going to be something that would test. From the first meeting, taking the brief, producing various iterations of drawings, through the convoluted Planning Application and Listed Building Consent, the closing out of Reserved Matters and the production of the construction drawings, The General Architecture Company stood by our side and simply delivered what they said they would, on the agreed dates. A pleasure to work with, the designed end result is way beyond our expectations and we now have a home that we are proud of.

As a building company, we have completed many projects designed by the General Architecture Company over the years. We love working from Matt and Kevin's drawings- having a detailed and accurate set of drawings makes life so much easier for us and the clients, both during the quoting process, and in the actual construction. They are so careful to make sure that everything works and is actually buildable, and they are always on hand to resolve or advise on anything that comes up during the build. This really saves a lot of time and greatly reduces the risk of additional costs for us and the clients. We look at many, many drawings from architects, and these guys are definitely up there with the best!
