My wife and I are in our late 70’s; and after eighteen years in our lovely home we were beginning to find our existing spiral staircase increasingly difficult to use. One of the biggest independent stair-lift companies in the UK was consulted but they were unable to fit a stairlift or a through-ceiling lift, declaring that neither of these were feasible. The only option (if we really wanted to remain in the house) was to change our current spiral-stair to a bespoke staircase fitted into the tight space of the current stairwell, allowing a wider and shallower climb. Searching on-line I found the excellent Edge Bespoke website and was very taken with the photographs of completed projects shown in the gallery. I immediately began an email dialogue about our needs with Tim Combes, and he visited us about a week later to assess and discuss the situation first-hand. He is such a nice man! From the moment that we first met I was impressed by his knowledge, understanding and empathy. Within the hour he had promised that he could build us a ‘floating’ winder stair to replace the existing spiral and what’s more, it would maximise the space available and should enable the important stairlift to be fitted. And so our progression of 3D concepts and interaction with real working drawings began; I was really impressed with the precision planning & thoroughness throughout this process. Eventually I visited the Ellington workshop to see our stair spines being assembled; and whilst I expected nothing less after studying the gallery photographs, I was amazed by the accuracy and quality of the welding carried out by Tim’s side-kick Tom - (another very nice man!). Within 5 months, the fitting of our new staircase began and over a three-day period it took shape into the wonder that can be seen in my attached photographs. We knew what to expect, but it really did look as though it belonged in the space; and it was indeed a distinctly stylish alternative to the previous spiral. Everything, both the spines, tread plates and the composite (but very high-quality) oak treads, were precision made & fitted; and the finish to the metalwork from shot-blasting & powder coating, in the colour of our own choosing, was quite superb. From the start to the finish of the assembly period we enjoyed the quiet dedication and good humour of the dynamic duo (Tim and Tom) as they worked cheerfully through some inevitable minor fitting snags. Well done chaps! We cannot fault their care, attention to detail and professionalism, or that of Jamie the CAD designer working in the background; and we cannot commend Edge Bespoke as a company highly enough.

Tim and the Edge bespoke team, understood our vision for an industrial luxe staircase and helped us to achieve exactly what we had imagined. Nothing is too much trouble, they supplied 3d and 2d drawings during the design process and adapted the designs to our feedback. We had some complicated led lighting requirements that they assisted with making the right mounting locations for. The kept to the timeline that they promised even squeezing us in so we would have treads for christmas, Onsite they have a great attention to detail and are very careful in your house. Totally recommend them if you are looking for a fab unique one off staircase.

Edge Bespoke fitted the glass balustrade on a floating stair for a one-off house we designed in Berkhamsted. They had excellent knowledge and advice on fitting methods and helped us to resolve a complicated glass bridge balustrade detail. The final result was exceptional with a great attention to detail. They turned the project around quickly and were easy to communicate with. We hope to work with Tim and team again in the future!

Tim was helpful and knowledgeable with decisions over style and colour and was able to match the staircase treads with our floor colour.
