Dublin & London Interior Design Studio Crafting Timeless Home Spaces

Anam Design Studio is an award winning interior design practice headed by Liz Hughes and Alex Michell. The firm’s multidisciplinary approach is dedicated to creating thoughtful, elegant and engaging spaces that are unique to the clients requirements. Our distinct, yet complementary, backgrounds in interior design, architecture and industrial design brings a unique focus, enabling us to work across a range of disciplines simultaneously in the pursuit of creating beautiful design. Our preference for natural materials and artisanal fabrication is borne out of a desire to build interiors that will age gracefully, eschewing the uniformity of overly processed and machined products for the charming imperfections of the hand made. Our designs are intended to be tactile, developing their own distinct patinas over time that can only be earned through daily use. We look for beauty in every detail that we design, creating spaces that elevate the everyday and bring joy to those who inhabit them.

Awards

Since their inception in 2022 Anam Design Studio have been featured in a number of publications including Leibal, Image Magazine, The Times and Yinji Space and in 2024 won a prestigious IDI award for best residential interior.

Professional Information

Liz studied Interior Architecture at Griffith College and Building Conservation at Trinity College, Dublin. She has worked in a number of award winning architectural and design studios including ODOS architects, Scott Tallon Walker in Dublin and Fletcher Priest Architects and Purcell in London. Alex studied at Central St. Martins, London. He worked in a number of high profile studios in Australia, London and Dublin including BVN Architects and Fletcher Priest Architects.

Wabi Sabi Furniture and Joinery

Anam (Liz and Alex) are an amazing team of designers. They both work to their strengths and together are top notch at managing a project through to completion. They are great communicators with their drawings and 3D's, but also in managing the team of trades and suppliers. As one of the key suppliers of fitted furniture and joinery on multiple projects, I can attest that they hold to a high standard of finish and always exceed the expectations of the clients. Our collaborations have resulted in the delivery of some very special homes; with coherent design that carefully brings together the function, aesthetics, craft, materials and detailing of the space. Once experienced you understand that good design is more than the sum of all these parts and it can elevate the soul.

Creative, thoughtful and accommodating. Best experience we have in interior design. ANAM transformed our future family house in Dalkey to a new level. Their modern design philosophy suits our needs perfectly. Meanwhile, they have top-notch resources in joinery, stonemasonry and furniture suppliers to make their visuals come into reality 100%. We lived overseas during the renovation, and they took care of everything of the whole project with perfection in the most minor details, yet everything was well-planned and there was no delay for the completion.
