Work tops

Need advice as never had natural wood before
Always been a laminate worktop
What are the pros and cons of solid wood
Do I have to do anything to it before it's fitted etc
Thinking of dark wood work tops with high gloss cream doors and natural matching floor ..
If any advice good or bad I'd appreciate
I'm no good at this stuff

I put a wooden worktop in my first house kitchen and it looked and felt amazing, I have to say it really made my kitchen. It cost quite a bit more but the end result was perfect. However, I have to say the looking after it part was really hard. It needed three coats of a wood stain before use and then a top up every six months. I had a very active lifestyle at the time so it just kept getting left and eventually you could see it wearing out. It wouldn't put me off doing it again but I now rent that house out and I've had to spend a small fortune maintaining the worktop as tenants don't look after it. Needless to say if you are DIY conscious and you know you can look after it, go for it!!!

Never heard of it so Googled it and the reviews. If it’s a laminate worktop why don’t you just replace it? You can buy a cheap 30mm worktop that‘s 3 metres long for around £50. 40mm thick will be slightly more expensive. It’s a paint so eventually it will fade or scratch. I don’t think it’s intended for a worktop but more for tiles. As a seller of worktops I definitely wouldn’t use it for them.

It looks really good if you wrap the wood around the units. So you would run the work surface on the tops and then down the open sides.
