Residential shop window

We have recently bought a house (that needs a complete renovation) but before we get going on the inside we need to make a decision about the shop window on the bottom floor.
I have attached a picture of the property (red shop window). Since the photos were taken the neighbours have painted their frontage a dark grey which I think looks really nice (much better than the red). I personally really like the shop window, I think its quirky and attractive and I think by not changing it we will save ourselves some money.
However, I'm concerned that it may devalue the house and it might put off some buyers when we come to sell it in the future. Would really appreciate people's thoughts/opinions.
As well as attaching the picture of our property, I've attached another photo of a property I saw in Southwark, where one property had converted the shop window and one property had left it.

Comments (25)Hi Am following this thread with interest - I have windows like this throughout my house and am finding it really difficult to decide on suitable treatments. On the upside it means the house always looks light and airy! We currently have a series of temporary roller blinds downstairs which work pretty well, but in the bedrooms we have curtains - although they now cover the radiators so not keen as a long term solution. Would also like to have blackout in the two main bedrooms. Does anyone know if extra wide roman blinds are available anywhere? We'd like an unfussy look. Suggestions and pics most welcome. Comments (1)Have 2 plain walks either side and a glass front, at the back wall have a really bold feature wall and a long desk with cash register! Also on the two side walls have long open cupboards with all your fabric in, the window display is also hard. For the window display do a ionic theme with fake grass and a picnic rug with a basket hamper and a dog with a outfit on and a manquin with a dress on. Comments (2)A pale washable floor so no danger of getting hems dirty. A window with a dark backdrop so that white dresses stand out. A raised area to make pinning up hems easier. Full length mirrors on opposite walls so the bride can see all angles. Personally I think you should keep most of the dresses in a store room just displaying a few styles for inspiration. I would have the interior in deep opulent colours and have some gilt and chandeliers for a luxury feel. Consider a TV inset into the wall to show rolling images and perhaps include adverts for complimentary businesses. Make sure Mum has a comfortable pride of place chair as she might be paying. Comments (18)We would say that your best bet is to go with wooden venetians, they come in a huge range of colours and give you that plantation shutter look, but without the bulk or price tag. They can be partly closed in the morning - giving you privacy but also giving you control over the light coming in. With larger slats you can angle the light towards the ceiling or towards the floor. - 11 years agoI love it. Dark grey/ nearly black front would look stunning!! I would have lower windows frosted; and agree with statement house number by the door and industrial style. I joined a picture of windows which would look amazing... But not sure about planing!! Please, give us update... Would love to see end result outside and inside! X
