I too would keep the doors, but replace the glass. What's in them probably isn't up to today's safety standards, and clear glass would look a lot nicer. With regards the pelmet i'd paint that the same colour as the doors. You can't really see it close enough to see what's wrong with it or how it's made. There are ways of changing how the doors are hung, you could always get a carpenter round to make suggestions. Another way of painting, would be to have them exactly the same as the wall colour, with the clear glass, they are then less of a feature as they will blend. Personally i'd go for this option.

I was also going to suggest carving a high top window out of the wall (friends have done this but put a modern leaded glass window in) to put glass in would be the cheapest option. Alternatives:- Sun tunnel (depends on the roof above but worth checking out) Also, We had our previous lounge that had internal bifold doors we could open up to let light in and at night, close for a cosy feel. You could also look at sliding screens (Japanese style but modern) and also have bifolds with glass so they let light in during the day but still give you privacy. Best solution for the most light

Hi Alexandria, if you're still considering this could you sketch the layout or post any pictures? I feel like I don't 100% grasp the space and what you're trying to do! Will the opening be filled with just a window, or will it also have a door? Will you have kitchen cabinets & counter on the other side of the wall divide? If the opening will just be filled with a window, I think go for multiple panes - one large glass window could look a bit odd, could have a bit of an aquarium vibe... The black crittall look you posted is lovely, and could be a good option. Would you be open to adding some black industrial touches to your decor to harmonize with it? If not, then you could consider going for a white casement style instead - which you could then paint navy / another complementary colour to match your kitchen better. Some examples in white below. If you're having to add a wall, it can be an opportunity for more storage or a nice seating area :D So you could do half window for the top, and bottom half could be storage or seating against the wall. Either is handy in a hallway! :) Examples below

Just wondering why you would want to put up a divider between kitchen and dining? I can understand having living separate, but I wouldnt have glass. A divider would be used to close off, make more snug, switch yourself off by whats going on at the other side, but if it was glass I don't see how that would work best.
