If I was you I wouldn't get rid of the pond, since this hallway looks spacious to me, so I'm not too sure if you would really need that space or maximise it.

You can change the pond to a nicer one, it is a lovely concept I would definitely stick to the idea!

it all looks incredibly fake which is probably not a good thing. I would remove everything and perhaps have a cascade pendant light that comes right down almost to the bottom to create dramatic lights. Not exactly this look but an inspiration...

Hello Furie, What about adapting the idea a little.. Instead of a pond that you have you could have a tropics scene... Think huge palms or banana plants...Cactus or beautiful fronds of your choice... Make it bold and really create something fantastic here... One of my favourite books is The book of Palms by Martius... There is a tiny version by taschen along with the really large book... but the little one is a good reference... Palms are in! Think Miami Modern! Look at your staircase in a whole new light and the rest of the house too... : ))

I wonder why you have a pond? Did you put it in and for what purpose. Does water in an entrance or communal area have a special significance to you?

If you want a water feature, what about a large pot with water overflowing onto pebbles. The water is collected and recycled. You can then add real, shade loving plants in a variety of coordinating pots to sit next to the water pot. Under stairs lighting would provide a gentle mood at night.

Have you considered the maintenance aspect of an internal water feature? Algae will grow after a while and the moisture content of the hall may encourage mildew. Would you consider just plants or no feature except the stairs itself?

That is amazing! If it was my house I would definitely keep the pond, maybe improve or update it.

1. Completely and absolutely remove all signs of the "pond". 2) Restore the space under the stairway to continue the design and materials of the space it's part of. 3) Do nothing for at least 6 months, except notice how much more sculptural the stairway feels.

Then, and only then, should you consider adding ambient lighting, a sculpture or an heirloom.

I think it's a good idea to replace the pond....the space itself is really beautiful. So would either leave it empty or fill it with custom-built, curved book shelving in white and let the books do the talking.

how about a fairy community, could fit a whole village? awful cute, little twinkling lights at night?

Sorry, need to say this....how we decorate or furnish our homes is a very personal decision and there is no right or wrong. Any comments made in this forum should be respectful and constructive.

Hello Furie, I had another idea that you may hate of course.. But you could take out the banisters.. In this way you have a sweeping staircase and you could have a low panel put in their place much lower than seen the image by ASVinteriors. This then makes the stairs even more of a feature and would really look good whilst giving a view across the space.. I like the glass blocks I can see and I think you have a very interesting space from what can be seen of it in the photo's.. You could have a piece of sculpture if not a palm for another more minimal look... or even nothing... : ))

I would definitely loose the pond. A few huge terracotta pots in a group would look good. Keep it simple.

Well, i was serious about the fairy garden, not joking, sometimes, people have to respect the ones commenting too. It is indoors, what i was seeing kept looking like out of doors. the pond is nice enough, does it have a fountain? It really looks like it would be hard to care for? in such an area, you could have great control and grow something like orchids? Other wise how about either an exhibition space for glass vases or sculpture, good lighting wonderful colors or prism effect of cut crystal or statuary. if you stick with the pond, i would definitely do a fountain, that would help keep it clean. once again could provide for some lovely water loving and shade loving plants.
