Nothing is ever 100% white or 100% black. Truth is always in the middle. Are ikea kitchens good quality mostly depends on how you assemble the units. If you put together a simple chair poorly it will end up being low quality and last for a short period of time, but if you do it tight, knowing it's pros and cons you can achieve a level of good quality and long term durability.

The same goes with kitchen units. Although, of course, there are some models that have serious cons but my personal advice for you would be to spend 10, 15 minutes an research what feedback there is about the particular model you've chosen. :)

We've had our current Ikea kitchen for 10 years and are renovating the kitchen next spring. We will be using Ikea again. The quality of the units is comparable with any, and much better than some, high street kitchens out there. 25 year guarantee and two years interest free credit too.

Ikea are the best in terms of high quality at low cost. They don't give that 25 year guarantee for nothing, and they use premium quality Blum hardware. Some fitters will say they don't like them as they won't get the large kickbacks that they get from other high street firms so take anything they say with a pinch of salt. We've used them in our own home, fitted many of them and love them so much we now make fronts to fit Metod, Pax and Besta (as well as other cabinets) www.customfronts.co.uk

I have just had an ikea kitchen fitted, and it HAS to be said that it is such amazing value. We used our own fitter and he modified the whole thing so that it looks very bespoke. Total cost for carcasses (including a freezer and dishwasher) was 3.5K. There is also the other costs, flooring, electrics, worktops,fitting and plastering so dread to think what it would have been if we hadn't used ikea units. Carpenter is so impressed he is putting an ikea kitchen in his own house.

Were just having another IKEA kitchen installed into our new home , our last IKEA kitchen still looks good after 10 years but the laminate worktop was beginning to go on the edges , gone for a wood worktop this time !

Ensure that you also consider how the kitchen will work in relation to other items, such as foul water disposal, electrical & lighting, air extraction etc. You may find an architect or building contractor will be able to address the whole design in greater clarification and viability.

KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF of IKEA kitchens!!! 1.5 years construction site, 10 vacation days wasted, 4 assembly appointments, 2 planning appointments, 2 surveying appointments, broken electrical appliances, countless emails and telephone calls ... Kitchen still not free of defects, zero service, zero compensation, just trouble !!!

I'm moving out of my apartment after just two years - IKEA (https://www.ikea.com/de/de/store/muenchen_eching/) still has not managed to finish the kitchen. I've lived here until the very end in a kitchen construction site with broken, blended worktops, falling out stove, gaps in the cabinets, broken electrical appliances and leaking sinks! In addition, I remain with € 300 uncompensated TV repair costs, because during assembly of the defective stove AND defective oven about 5x the fuse popped out, whereupon the TV mainboard was fried.

I was always promised compensation during the 1.5 years until I actually wanted to claim it. For example, the clerk Ms. Sandra H. (customer service
IKEA Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Eching) offered the option to withdraw from the purchase contract in an email pledged for defect removal costs of € 1,400, i.e. 38% of the purchase price (‘Of course you are also free to withdraw from the complete purchase contract." Email of Sandra H. from 19.09.18). When I wanted to take this a week later, the resignation was again denied ("This is smaller (legally ‘minor’) deviation from the agreed condition, which is why your client has no right of withdrawal and regarding a purchase price reduction , we consider here a reduction of 5% of the purchase price of the kitchen for appropriate.’ Email of Sandra H. from 27.09.18). The € 1,400 costs estimated by IKEA itself for defect removal are suddenly ‘legally minor’?!?! This customer-devaluing attrition strategy from IKEA customer service is absolutely inappropriate!

In the meantime I have given up even with a lawyer involved, because I have to hand over the apartment to the new tenant - I have refused the offered 91 € impairment and remain on my kitchen defects and repair costs. I did not mention many annoying details in this summary. Should anyone still want to buy an IKEA kitchen at IKEA, here is my review of the appointment / assembly process, which she/he should plan with:

- 15.05.2017 1.planing apptmt at IKEA: normal
- 12.06.2017 1.installation apptmt at home: Planning error (measures copied incorrectly), broken kitchen appliances, broken TV, cabinet gaps, no worktop
- 13.06.2017 2.planing apptmt at IKEA: complete replaning due to 40cm length planing error
- 28.06.2017 2.installation apptmt: incorrect parts delivery, scratched, incorrectly cut worktop, broken rear wall
- 04.07.2017 2.surveying apptmt: new measurement for worktop
- 13.11.2017 3.installation apptmt: worktop supplied by 5cm too narrow
- 02.06.2018 4.installation apptmt: worktop supplied by 2cm too wide & 2cm too short
- about 12 repetitive hotline calls (always longer than 30min) including waiting loop
- 10 WASTE HOLIDAYS
- 26 Email pure for the coordination of the kitchen installation
- 43 Email with IKEA "customer service" for the misclaimed "claim settlement"
- 300 € collateral damage
- Zero compensation (91 € were offered to me, which I refused)

Ikea carcasses are lower and deeper so that can be an issue with worktops. They hang on the wall on a steel rail which is clever but could be an issue in older properties. What you save in cost of carcasses you may spend on fitting, but in general they are well designed. I think a kitchen always needs an excellent fitter, no matter what.

The only fault with IKEA products are those that put it together. It's not like flat pack in the 80's, the instructions and how the units go together is very good, which is why theyre such a success.

The carcases are laminated particle board no matter where you get them so I dont see how anyone can say it's better from anywhere else. If, like me, the corner unit was shy of an inch too long to fit, the beauty of flat pack made it easy to adjust before putting together, also had to make an access to the drain in the bottom of my other corner unit. My choice isnt everyones cup of tea, being black carcass with dark teal fronts, but replacing the fronts is so affordable.
