The reference picture that I posted has groupings that fit together and relate to the overall whole. Pictures are low and fit together with the furniture around it. I think another one of the dilemmas in this room is the items are dispersed around the room in a way that they don't relate or complement another. They stand alone which makes it to crowded and not enough because they don't work as a whole which is the vibe it's sending. Possible options -Take down pictures between windows and on window sills -Group pictures together with furniture -I like the couches, but the trunk doesn't seem to be working Here are some other references to design and tv fireplace ideas Good luck! If my kitchen were separate I might opt for more colours! But I've got an open plan and prefer to keep it modern and minimal to let the living room shine!

Thank you Colorhappy, I was secretly hoping you would comment as you clearly know all about colour, something I definitely struggle with a little. I think your suggestion of a stone colour for the render and a green blue for the doors would look lovely, and I love the idea of it relating to the greenery in the garden. Do you have any suggestions for a stone colour? I have looked at F&B for the green/blue, they have a paint actually named green/blue, but I am not sure if this is too much of a literal interpretation of your advice :-) I also like the oval room blue too, do you think this could work? I love Stiffkey blue, but not sure if this is too rich/deep a colour and would end up looking dark? The front of the house faces north but still gets lots of great light, the house is elevated somewhat so it is never in shadow if that makes any difference to our choice of colour?

@Daisy England - I would never have gone for cream but then tried a mix of sage cover with cream pillows and sheets and it looks incredible - the scheme also intergrates the bed which means I don't have to replace!! Thank you so much for your help!
