Kitchen help.

I've attached a photo of the kitchen/dining room knock through and extension we're hoping to have. I'm after ideas or suggestions please about the layout.

Currently the kitchen is a u-shape inside the squiggled lines where the table is. The builder who's quoting for the work has come up with this design and whilst I really like it I'm concerned about the noise with having the extractor on an inside wall. (I've already posted about this and One plan kindly suggested acoustic absorbing panels....that's still a consideration).

The only other workable, practical and not particularly 'fun/contemporary ' layout that we can come up with is to just have the kitchen in the same place but longer. I'd really welcome some ideas from someone else just looking at it as a blank canvas. We obviously can't see past what's already here!

The bi-folds are very unlikely to be happening as they push the project over our budget. I'd rather save money by copying the french door at the back of the lounge and I'd be unlikely to keep both doors open in case the big pigeons in the garden decide to fly in :)

One other thing is that rather than having it complete open, we could have a supporting pillar coming down next to the island. This will cut the cost a little too.

So, I think I've prattled on enough and we'll done if you've made it this far!

edit...the photo looks squished on my phone but corrects itself when I click on it so hope you guys can see it properly.
