I'd paint the column blue but am unsure what you mean about the curvy bit, do you have a clearer photo?

Hi Pannacotta - here's a close up - as the basin is a curved corner basin the column beneath it also has a curve in it as it reaches the basin. So if the column is painted blue might the curved blue column look a bit odd? Or better than it is now?!

The walls are stiff key blue colour. It just looks like a column has been stuck in - think we need some tiles to soften the rather clinical, hospital look? Maybe a blue patterned tile to try to blend the blue walls and (at the moment) White column!

St James interior - yes perhaps some nice white skirting would help it all blend in?

Also, we need to think about where to put a mirror, and what shape. I guess on the small side wall on the right is best as I don't want to start trying to put a corner mirror in! I think next time I might avoid a corner sink!

I love the colour you have chosen but I would probably paint the column in the same colour and wouldn't worry too much about the curvy bit. How about Mirror or Mirror Tiles (similar size to the current tiles) on both sides of the corner that go all the way to the ceiling?

I like the blue! You could make the sink a theme of columns by putting a white framed long rectangular mirror on the wall where the towel rail is currently situated... Then you are playing with the idea of shape and the sink then might not look quite so much a Grecian column as you put it : ) )

Another idea is to simply paint the board underneath (column) so it blends with the wall... leave the skirting as is.. Then it will look like a corner sink..

Why not find a mirror that you could hang in such as way as to avoid the idea of "corner" Maybe a nice hook in the corner and hang something like this, it will blend with the towel rail and tap and the two end mirrors fold.. so you could angle them to suit the corner.. Maybe an idea or two to consider.. There are a range of these styles.. : ))

I would put more than one mirror up because I think that dark blue is a brilliant frame for white or light objects like pictures or mirrors.
I would paint the pedestal the wall colour but stop at a straight line under the basin so that you don't make the curve more obvious.

I'd paint the box under the sink the same as the walls. Instead of the glass splashback why not have mirrored panels on both sides into the corner all the way up to the ceiling?

I like the dark wall. I think maybe the "boxed" part isn't big enough. I'd suggest boxing it out to make it look like the sink is sitting on something, and maybe use something other than white. A natural wood to give it some contrast to the modern color. I couldn't really find exactly what I was thinking but attached some photo's.

Yes I agree Mr skain - did think of surrounding in a bigger wood cabinet but not sure of £ and then issue of water on wood! But yes a possible answer...

Jonathanandb1972 - agree with idea to just paint the Grecian column (!) and maybe yes just paint a straight line so the curve isn't so obvious around the sink. Maybe this could look neater with a wooden horizontal line to show a new border...

The cheapest solution may work. Paint the wall white from the skirting to the top of the white tiles. The sink will then disappear into the white wall and look less boxy. I would then hang a large square wooden mirror ( or painting) in a central position. Anything squashed into the corner won't look right. The mirror will act as a focal point and detract from the Grecian sink. If the line where the blue meets white is done in a crisp way it should work well and cost very little.

Thanks colour happy - agree ideally if we can paint a straight line between the blue and white that could work. I like the idea of maybe having a large mirror on the central wall. I think dark mirror and pic frames are best on dark walls. Any ideas for tiles above the sink? Would a blue patterned one work?

Hi Sarah, if you painted the area white you wouldn't need to retile, but if you wanted to I would keep it white. Tiny white glass mosaic could work. If you want to introduce some pattern then a blue patterned towel and a rustic wood mirror may be an idea.

I like the colour of your walls although the picture may not be a true reflection of it in reality, but even if more blue I can see it works. Personally I don't like the big tiles behind the sink. Maybe it's because it mirrors the Grecian column effect. I would try painting the whole boxing the same colour as the basin as I don't think the curve would be bad at all. May add a shape to the straight lines. To me the large tiles and column make it too boxy. I would personally put a flamboyant silver framed mirror on the wall opposite the doorway, with perhaps a couple of (?) silver framed pictures staggered on the wall to the right to try and help balance it. I'm not sure what I would do with the tiles. Probably a case of seeing how the other changes pulls together the look.
Incidentally if you paint your Grecian column, you could try it first with a straight line as others have suggested and if it doesn't look right then you could carry on and see the effect. How about cutting some newspaper to fit and painting the paper if you have plenty of paint, to see if it works that way?

Thank you Jack Bee. Yes, we will paint the column. The glass tile wasn't really thought about and was put up quickly - ideally we'd like something a bit more interesting or with detail. Will try the patterned towel and see about replacing the glass for ? Something ? Thank you

Lovely dark blue colour (on my screen anyway!) My eye is most drawn to the white tiles so if it was mine I would probably try changing the tiles 1st. I like your idea of pattern so would maybe look for a smaller tile with white background & fairly subtle blue pattern. A mirror would also look great against the deep blue. You could always paint the 'column' later but your eye may just be drawn to the sink itself after you've done that. You could always hang a mirror & lean new tiles against the wall before you chip off the old ones to see if they look like you expect

That's an awesome colour (I've used to great effect too in small places). It enables you to be really decadent and make the room mega luxury. Who doesn't want that sat on the throne ;-)

I totally disagree with trying to match everything up, it's a complete waste of the palette in the colour itself, and don't worry about the curve stuff, work with it, put things into the space that make it enjoyable. Annoyingly I can't upload the pics I have sorry.

The colour enables you to go crazy. Blacks, browns, grey (downpipe grey is the match for this colour and it is ace), purples, bronze, gold and silver all come to life off it. Please, please, please do not put any more white in there. Make it mega luxurious...

To make the walls come to life you could use lots of photo frames in golds and silvers, do a mural around the corner of the wall above the basin with those small glass bricks and mirrors to create a focal point (think / look at morrocan style stuff), add in a really deep mix rug, put up a lush dried flower set that you can add scent to once in a while, get a shelf up for candles and trinkets.

Haha fluges - love the suggestions. Yes it's so cold in there at the moment - we need shelves rugs pics flowers all of the above. I'm going to paint the 'column' and sort out these tiles - like morroccan style to add a bit of detail. Right, who wants to look after the two kids so I can get started?

I also saw some some 90 degree towel bars somewhere which may work to make the proportion look less awkward. I agree with not painting the dark out to white. You would lose the effect you are trying to achieve which is what you like. Don't lose sight of what you wanted to begin with. I think your back splash would look good in a glass tile the same colour as your wall. At any rate, try to paint the column. It's only paint. Then another photo so we can see! Kids? Give them a paint brush!

A patterned towel on the towel holder would soften the room. also how about a photo montage feature wall with mismatched picture frames? :) love the wall colour.

Love the colour and I don't see a problem with the contrast of the white. If you're not happy with it,maybe a a different dimension with the tiles. This may then detract from the column.
